What a godsend for archive retrieval and cataloguing. And what a great job that would be to do. I wonder if they tried the Japanese made laser record player. Of course, that device wouldn't help with lacquers and other non-lp formats.
Very cool. I'm getting into 78s of old piano recordings and I'm constantly aware of how fragile the shellacs are, and also, with the amount of heavy tracking force, how easily one can damage them... I hope someone creative & enterprising enough will create a product using such a technology out to the audiophile market...
