Politicians and adultery. Does it matter?

Nevada had a real pair of senators.

Harry Reid, our senior public servant has parlayed his political 'skills' into to some whopping land deals that started out with crap land and ending up with jewels of the valley. He's 30-40 million dollar man who has just coincidentally had the biggest developers sell him land that coincidentally later became developmental gold.

John Ensign, it will turn out, is not merely an adulterer, but a serial adulterer, who is blah blah blah Christian leadership, blah blah blah Promise Keeprs...

I think Diogenes would take a pass on both these cards.

How's your state?

I'm live in the state of Maryland. Do the names Spiro Agnew or Marvin Mandel sound familiar? Enough said.

Anyway, penises in orifices not belonging to spouses seems quite a bipartisan affair. In the last year, America has found BOTH Ensign and Edwards to be aptly named...John.

Do y'all care?

Should politicians live by the Charles Barkley credo, "I ain't your damn role model?" Should they get a pass and just leave it at "Do as I say, not as I screw?"

It sure seems there is no shortage of guys willing to "poll the electorate," so to speak.

The main worry I have is that these people are making a shambles of heterosexual marriage. On the one hand, the holy union of matrimony is easily tossed aside while someone like Senator Ensign yammers about Nevada's "Defense of Marriage" bill banning gay marriage, while, on the other hand, he's boning chicks on his payroll. Dude, if you wanna defend fuckin' marriage, don't break Commandments specifically discussing adultery AND coveting thy neighbor's wife.

Ensign has knocked off one fifth of the Ten Commandments while at the helm of the Senate Christian group!

So, adultery is one of the Ten Big Rules, but do we even care, just so long as it's between a man and a woman?

You're missing the point that these adulturers are trying to make...they're anti-homosexuality and pro-heterosexuality. What's the old saying, practice what you preach. These guys are just trying to "spread the word", so to say.

Let us not forget that these guys are in political office because the citizenry elects them time and time again. They are just like a child who gets caught with his hand in the cookie jar...if they're never punished they'll keep taking those cookies. Wouldn't you?

Hell yes, I care. This is one of the reasons I left the Republican Party and the Democratic Party before that. If they're not going to walk the walk blah blah blah. Personally, based on my experience working in a revenue generating government agency, politicians are the worst at everything. The bottom of the barrel.

Without trying to touch on all the human vaguaries that can elicit an illicit alliance....politicians seem to universally embrace the basest, most annoying personality disorder extant: pathological narcissism.

Have you ever had the pleasure of listening to these blowhards pontificate in Congress on behalf of their cause du jour? The overweening confidence and smug self-satisfaction; the way they pause for effect and smile at their own clever arguments- they give themselves a power chubby, then bathe in the suckling of groveling toadies who give them a cheap reflection of their own distorted self image. When caught they lie immediately, then line up the pathetic, bewildered family for the obligatory, bizarre press conference confessional.

I dislike them intensely.

JHC, dude, open your other eye!

Dems...blah blah blah.

So, what, for Republicans is it a path to Fox News and being Speaker of the House leading an impeachment while doing the exact same thing as the person you are impeaching?

For Republicans, is it a path to becoming the house boy for the Florida developer you used to help?

For Republicans, is it a path to the Minneapolis airport?

You live in Idaho, how does Senator Craig sit with you?

For one issue, think bipartisan.

Well, I have to say that I react more strongly to someone who stands up and claims to be for "traditional family values" who is shown to serially spite the entire idea than I do to someone who argues (don't get the idea I agree with them, please) for the silly "free love" notion.

The "free love" person may be unwise, not understand either the emotional or medical aspects of their actions, but at least they're consistent in what they say and do. (Edited to add, that may be sometimes a too-kind estimation, but like I said, don't get the idea I'm arguing for the idea. I'm not sure where I'd put the cult-of-personality cases, except to say that cults of personality are always bad news in the long run.)

On the other hand, an "abstainence only" person who is also a "promise keeper" and stands up for "family values" whose actions are exactly in the form of "spread the wild oats", "to heck with the promises", and "family? who cares", well, sorry, that person is arguing "do as I say, not as I do". We all know how that works after the last 20 years, don't we? (I include both Bushes as well as Mr. Bill (oooh nooo mr. hands!) in that, so it's clear.)

Oh, geeze, man, that's such a bad, bad, bad choice of words. Ewww!

Quote:

Yeah, agreed.

What ticks me off so much about the current Republican party is that it seems to consist nearly completely of people who speak loudly out of both sides of their mouth.

If you consider that Arlen Specter bailed, Jeffords bailed, and that Barry Goldwater was drummed out of the Arizona Republican Party for a year for his stance on gays, that shows you just who and what actually RUNS the Republican party right now.

I think the day I knew that the Republican party had jumped the shark was when I read the article on the Arizona party tossing Barry out. It is somewhat revealing that the voters of Arizona promptly tossed them out, and the new leaders promptly re-instated Barry, but come on, when Mr. Conservative (who I very much miss, by the way) gets tossed out of the party? Get real!

Ok, I'm a fiscal conservative, small government, social liberal, not particularly extreme in any part, who leans slightly right of center, as center sat in the 1970's. I haven't changed my position a lot, but for some reason, now I'm a "leftist" never mind I'm a staunch capitalist. You figure.

I think the modern right has three standard positions one must assume to properly align with the Red Party.

Anti-choice.

Anti-gay.

Must believe in black helicopters and 'liberal' control of same.

(I would have mentioned some sort of Christain affiliation, but the new right only pays it 'lip service,' so actual belief is obviously not part of the equation. Hell, the Pope is too liberal on capital punishment for the modern conservative. Funny, the Catholic rightwing nuts will picket Notre Dame if a pro-choice President comes to speak, but they are pleased as punch when a known signer of death warrants hits a Catholic campus, al a Bush.)

Crazy, man.

In the past, we had fiscal conservatism as a Red party thing, but the last 8 years proved that wrong! The only hope the rediots have is to answer with BS like, "Well, Obama may spend more than we did!"

Thin gruel, what the Reds try to serve up these days.

Yeah, but thanks in part to what the "relativists" and the 'education experts' did to education about skepticism, the scientific method, etc, from 1960's until very recently if not now, the people the educational system turned out can't tell the gruel from the steak.

In my opinion, the mostly leftwing attack on education (as socially relativistic, etc, I'm not referring to racial issues, etc, here) both enabled the present rightwing attack on education (i.e. "creation science" and "intellegent design") as well as acceptance of a lot of baloney from a lot of politicians of all stripes. One stripe in all politicians, though, seems to be, err, dark brown...

C'mon JJ, we all know the aim of most politicians is to stay in office once they get elected that first time. That saying about power corrupting always comes into play. We've all heard, "I need more time to achieve my/your goals". The wants and/or needs of the voters almost always get ignored.

You do realize that Clinton sort of started this shit. Getting impeached for unethical behavior in White House. That is what started this whole thing. In the past, the press looked the other way for the most part on infidelity. It's the same thing with people like Buddha. Still bitter over the impeachment and W getting elected not once but twice. A means to bash what he hates, which I sort of like to do myself. Nevertheless, he's paying too much attention to the past as a means to detract from the current pile of shit being laid down on us for generations to come. If it was an article on a Democrat cheating on his wife? I don't recall Buddha posting shit about Edwards.

Boy, talk about them old partisan blinders!

Let's see, now, how far back can we go? Oh, wait, to at least Thomas Jefferson...

Sorry, no, Clinton stands out only because of a purely dishonest attempt on the part of the republican party to try to usurp the will of the voters under color of law. Clinton stands out because one of his paramours talked. Let's ask Mimi Eisenhauer about it, ok? What 'cha think, sport?

Hey, Einstein, he's my state's Senator. It was in the news this week. Maybe you can go back and tell me when the Edwards' story broke and time it to the existence of this forum.

(Typical of the red-zombies..."Problem with a red party Senator? Point out a Blue party failing. Moronic.)

I also mentioned my disdain for Harry Reid, the Blue party guy.

My real main wish is for the right wing nut jobs calling themselves (faux) iindependents' to wake up and realize both parties are FOS. The constant apologizing the Red Party's acts of governmental mayhem and personal depravity is so weak, I feel embarassed on their behalf.

Watch JIMV, he is constitutionally unable to admit flaws exist on the red side of the divide. Point out that Ensign is the chief of the Christian senator's Broigade or a Promise Keeper and all the likes of Lamont can do is flop around yelling, "Bill Clinton!" What a great thinker.

These faux independents love pointing out our current problems as the "worst since 1983," but they forget that was during Reagan's second full year in office.

There is such a mass tantrum by the hens of the right, they get stuck with having to celebrate the murder of abortionists or lack of complete reacovery from the Bush debacle for their source of solace these days.

Time more people started recycling their "America, love it or leave it" bumper stickers.

Thankfully, I don't have say I belong to either party. I fuck each up the ass. I'm an equal opportunity complainer. You, on the other hand, have a major hard-on for somebody's else's beliefs. And I know you know everybody has a right to freedom of expression. So, you don't like a certain group of people. They don't like you either. Big fucking deal. Your representation fucked up on the moral high ground. Nothing new. But you're not as liberal as you would like people to think what with your constant bitching about what other people believe. I also notice you're real careful about what you believe. You just like to take inventory of everyone else. Take me for example. I hate almost everybody. I don't trust anybody outside of my immediate family. Everybody is a fucking liar. Even Christians. So, when Christians get caught lying or fucking around or killing another person don't act all fucking surprised and take it as an opportunity to bash a group of people you can't stand. Christians have been breaking the 10 Commandments since the day the words were burned into stone by God Himself. I sort of like Jules Winnfield's interpretation of Ezekiel 25:17.

Quote:
There's a passage I got memorized. Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you. I been sayin' that shit for years. And if you ever heard it, it meant your ass. I never really questioned what it meant. I thought it was just a cold-blooded thing to say to a motherfucker before you popped a cap in his ass. But I saw some shit this mornin' made me think twice. Now I'm thinkin': it could mean you're the evil man. And I'm the righteous man. And Mr. 9mm here, he's the shepherd protecting my righteous ass in the valley of darkness. Or it could be you're the righteous man and I'm the shepherd and it's the world that's evil and selfish. I'd like that. But that shit ain't the truth. The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be a shepherd.

Now, that is not exactly what Ezekiel 25:17 states but at least Christians try and that is the point Jules is trying to make. Bleeding heart liberals suck. People who suck are a drain on society. Try not to suck so much, Buddha. I still like you regardless of your shortcomings. And we all have shortcomings. Including the trash elected into office in your state. Another day another blowjob. If you don't believe me, Go Ask Alice.

Oh, and BTW, you can replace "Christian" with your deflection, "Red Motherfuckers", or "Right Hand Masturbaters".

You don't complain so much as whine. You should have a take. Your existence in this forum seems based on, "Others ccomplained before me, now I shall do it endlessly and without cognition." That, together with your capacity for endless repetition makes for quite a presentation. Kind of the DUP of social commentary - limited to three takes and then a cut and paste fiesta. "Same shit, different day" really sums you guys up.

You have an interesting anti-Christian neurosis you like to project on people. We see that alot. People who don't like to have to think for themselves follow your path - listen to Rush, drink the Kool Aid, proclaim youself an independent. The only thing you guys seem to be independent of is thinking for yourselves.

Oh, well, saves you effort, at least.

BTW, how many times do I have to state that I listen to NPR during the day? You keep spewing your hatred through stereotypes. That makes you an idiot, Buddha. It must suck to be you.

Back to the topic on hand, the craziest development is the Republican Governor Mark Sanford's mysterious disappearance. His staff told the media that he was hiking in the Appalachia. Then he surfaces mysteriously at an airport and says he was in the coasts of Argentina.

And now, he admits that he's been having an affair and apologizes to the family! And his four sons were worried, wondering where daddy was on Father's Day. He makes Ensign look angelic.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124584667616347147.html

But at the same time, I must say, I can empathize to a degree. There's no denying that he did something dishonorable. But from what I gather from his profile, it seems that he values personal independence and freedom, and it's too bad he succumbed to his temptations (he should have chosen audiophilia instead of adultery as a hobby )... I thought he was going to make an excellent presidential candidate for the Republicans, as he was probably one of the only TRUE fiscal conservatives & believer in small gov't... but obviously I was wrong and am a bit bummed that Sanford did not pan out. (Not you, Lamont! )

In the language of our forefathers, "high crimes and misdemeanors" include things like fucking around on your wife. It is subjective and totally impeachable. If one walks the walk than one should be ready to tar and feather those that betray our trust. I would like to thank the governor for fucking up the conservative base and at the same time getting himself culled out of the bottom of the barrel with the rest of the grindles.

This is how the Republicans fucked up. When Lincoln was assassinated by a Southern Democrat, Andrew Johnson, a Northern Democrat assumed the office. He was impeached. It would be 20 years before another Democrat would be elected to office. The Republicans today failed to look back in history to see how the Republicans managed to hold the Executive Branch for so long after Johnson was impeached. Instead, they took the opposite course after Clinton was impeached. They (we) elected a fucking farmer just a little bit smarter than Jimmy Carter into office not once but twice and the rest of the idiotic Republicans in office started fucking around on their wives or making a pass at male peace officers in public restrooms. This is why we have the latest moron in office offering coupons for the taxpayer to pay $4500 for somebody's junky old car so some bum can get a new car on credit. Get it?

i have never tried to judge a politician by personal conduct. however, in this case, the facts are so bizzare. the lies are monumental. and he ran off and left his state rudderless for several days. it certainly calls into question his ability to govern. also, i don't know what his stance was on the morality issue, but if he was like mark foley, up on a soapbox extolling the evils of homosexuality and the virtues of marriage and then to be caught like this - well, that's just old fashioned hypocracy and i can't accept that.

Never forget that the Bush/CIA/skull'n'bones/military complex/Monsanto/Rockefeller/FED crew are affiliated with the Argentinian (read:own country) leftovers of Nazi Germany.

And the Dems are owned by the Rothschild/Bank of England/Builderburgers in Europe.

The Dems win the Whitehouse and suddenly there is a quiet drive to have a major Builderburger (media owner, ie population mesmerization and opinion/knowledge/credibility 'spin control'), Conrad Black, released from prison. A man put there by the 'other crew', for helping the Euro based crew. Conrad is a fucking psychotic. Part of why they need him.

They play a game, and they play it on you.

Both are gigantic sacks of the most vile dog poo you can imagine and both don't give a shit about any of you.

Get with the program. Figure it out.

It does not Get any more basic than the above comment on the 'created polarization', created for your entertainment and distraction. They fight over who gets the drivers seat, while doing their damnedest to make sure you never figure out what is going on.

None of them are worth anything; the country is now stripped bare....and will now be turned into a fully blown Weirmar Republic so it can really be whipped into a neat tool for attacking the rest of the world. If you thought the past 50 years of US fascist imperialism was bad, you just wait for the next 50. After this coming depression breaks you first, of course.
