DV-6001 is a very good sounding machine and the video section CAN turned off. the VC-6001 is a changer and for that reason should be avoided (changer mechanisms allow extra vibrations, are another thing that can break, and cost money that doesn't contribute in any way to sound quality.)
I have no experience with the Oppo so I'll let other comment on that unit.

I didn't think about that for changers, though I figured they were to be avoided. Makes sense to me!!
