I think having the children sing this makes it sound trite.

When children do anything like this (other than some blatant, Madison Avenue media commercial) it seems better, IMO, because they bring their optimism, innocence, trust and hope. It puts adult concerns in a whole new perspective- one which speaks from the time before loss and regret, yet looks to the future where those sentiments cast long shadows.

One of the best classic rock songs ever. The guitar work, lyrics, delivery- everything. Love it- every bit. Also really like the Smashing Pumpkins version which stays true to the original intent but adds it's own edge.

Not sure about the kids though...

I admit a guilty pleasure for the Dixie Chicks' version, as well.

Tee hee! Mrs. Sanford agrees with you. It's about a woman growing old. She knows.

Exactly! The fact that the children couldn't possibly understand the meaning of the lyrics they are singing cheapens the song.

AlexO the Sentimental Cold Hearted Snake.

Mrs. Sanford blames the teacher. She remembers being in chorus and the teacher had them singing "Cherish" just like these kids.

Perish is the word that more than applies
To the hope in my heart each time I realize
That I am not gonna be the one to share your dreams
That I am not gonna be the one to share your schemes
That I am not gonna be the one to share what seems to be
The life that you could cherish as much as I do yours

Oh, I'm beginning to think that man has never found
The words that could make you want me
That have the right amount of letters, just the right sound
That could make you hear, make you see
That you are driving me out of my mind

Can you imagine the kids choir singing "Suzanne"?

So yet another song (Landslide) in the infinite pantheon of sad songs about love, loss and growing old isn't ALREADY THE STANDING DEFINITION OF TRITE??? Children singing it make it MORE SO? I think not..

Chidren are magical. At least mine were.

I am a child, I'll last a while.
You can't conceive
of the pleasure in my smile.
You hold my hand,
rough up my hair,
It's lots of fun
to have you there.

God gave to you,
now, you give to me,
I'd like to know
what you learned.
The sky is blue
and so is the sea.
What is the color,
when black is burned?
What is the color?

You are a man, you understand.
You pick me up
and you lay me down again.
You make the rules,
you say what's fair,
It's lots of fun
to have you there.

I am a child, I'll last a while.
You can't conceive
of the pleasure in my smile.

Those young girls singing Landslide are years away from even knowing what they are singing about. Look at some of those little girls pointing at the teacher during the song. Gives me the creeps. Half those boys are going to be gay now. This is a crime. Look at them! They think they're girls! Nancy boys now.
