Awesome. And very cool cover art.
I've only listened once, but, aside from some impressive lead guitar, I'm finding this album to be kinda soft, sounding too much like Elton John or Billy Joel (not that there's anything wrong with that) and 1980s TV theme songs (like Bosom Buddies, or something). Just sorta soft, weak. Like, when he sings, "I don't care anymore, I don't care anymore," I really believe him. And some of the songs sound crazy-familiar. The first track is an obvious rip-off of something I can't quite put my finger on.

I love it. Looove it. The band is constantly reinventing themselves...no album of theirs sounds anything like the album before it.
And yes, it has a 70s soft rock vibe, but I am really diggin it!
Production is crazy good..

I knew The Band. The Band were friends of mine. Wilco isn't The Band.
And don't underestimate the power of drugs. After all, "Without chemicals, life itself would be impossible."
The pic was shot here in... Milwaukee, the day of their 2nd show here. The area is very old German, even in this area of downtown. Milwaukee has always clung to Old World frugalities, much to the detriment of their growth as a city, but this is a nice juxtaposition of the dichotomy of our town. They did a great photo shoot as well, where they invited everyone from the city to come on down for a group photo, which should be included on the back cover, per Jeff Tweedy, at the 2nd show that day. It seems he is trying a bit to do that, given the front cover shot. Watching these dromedaries walk around downtown during the afternoon was a strange site to be sure! I look forward to the release and the custom, iron-on Tshirts for pre-orders as well! I think mine is going to say... "(the band).. that made Milwaukee famous... again!"
Yeah.. funny, Mr. Bentsen. Wilco doesn't sound like The Band in the least. To equate two bands 20 years apart is asinine. Inevitable accusations of being derivative always pop to mind... and I really believe that anyone that listens the full brunt of Wilco's music with an open mind (the catch) does seem them as a diverse, ever-growing band, albeit led by Jeff Tweedy (which is a good thing). They do maintain a certain cohesiveness over the years that IS tangible, no matter what lineup changes may occur. To hate is just to hate.
they have a band-ish thing going on to me...I've been a fan of Jeff Tweedy(and Jay Farrar) since Uncle Tupelo, so I aint just talking to be talking... Jeff is a super nice guy, hung out with him several times in Germany.
Just got my LP version of the new album. I like it a lot... they definitely have a different vibe, now that Nels Cline has joined in... Tweedy will always be the man, but for me, I can't imagine Wilco w/o Glenn Kotche, one of the most gifted percussionists around.
I'll always have a soft spot for all the early Wilco albums, right up to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (including the Demo), which means I'll always miss Jay Bennett... but for some reason, the LP I keep going back to unexpectedly is Ghost Is Born... such a great album in a loose, baggy way. Summerteeth is more hummable, YHF has more of a cultural resonance, as well as a more identifiable 'loneliness' but I've played Ghost Is Born more than any other Wilco LPs. I often find myself singing "Theologians" in my head, unconsciously, on my way to work.
That acoustic solo version of "Sunken Treasures" on I Am Trying To Break Your Heart DVD is just ridiculous, makes me want to purchase this DVD:

Yes, that DVD is amazing, as is Ashes of American Flags(amazing cinemetography and sound)
Being There is my favorite WILCO album, but AGIB is probably the best "sounding" (probably in no small part due to being recorded at SEAR SOUND

I have the Wilco Book that comes w/ a CD. Nice coffeetable book. One Wilco-related paraphernalia that definitely SUCKS is Jeff Tweedy's book of poetry. Yes it's better than Jewel's but that's about the only compliment I can pay it.

not for everyone..abstract, to be sure., but I love it. The most fascinating thing for me about the book is getting a glimpse inside of his head , of his thought process. I also love Burroughs, cummings, james, ..bukowski..
it is one of those things where either you are in that headspace or you aren't. not everyone is.
not all of them are great, mind you, but such is the nature of bought goods... JT is an immensely talented human being.
I love Ryan Adams poetry too(he has a couple books out there).
