"Millennium" was great.

"Six Feet Under"' was sublime.

"Damages" is very entertaining.

Man, some great shows out there.
I LOVE

Lost(far too deep of a storyline to go into..watch it!)
The Tudors(my new favorite ..about the Tudor Dynasty/Henry VIII)
Prison Break
Breaking Bad(about a chem teacher in money trouble who finds out he has Stage III Lung Cancer, and to help with money, he starts making very pure Meth with one of his former students)
The Wire
The Unit
CARNIVALE(AMAZING..that show was so damned good!!about a traveling Carnival in the dustbowl depression era..they pick up this kid who turns out to be very...special. the story line resembles a more modern day revelation..Apocalyptic folk tv!!)) get it now!
True Blood(about a group of Vampires who have intermingled with society in a Lousiana town..the humans and vampires live in harmony, mostly...) Guilty pleasure, but I love it.

I think we may have similar tastes..I am sure you will love those shows.

Dexter is a good one.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is FUNNY. Larry David (Seinfeld) in Beyond Neurotic.

The new BSG is great. For me it's the best sci fi series ever. Depth of character, fascinating, allegorical storylines and smoking hot babes, what more could one ask for. :-)

Rescue Me is another great series. And don't forget Weeds.

there is some pretty good tv out there nowadays.

Actually all the previous posters recs are among my fave shows.

Oh no, audiophiles agreeing on something ? the apocalypse is nigh.

I would recommend Deadwood if you like westerns, but it's not in the traditional western mold and certainly not for the faint of heart.

I'll second other posters on the greatness of The Wire, but being from Baltimore I'm obligated to mention that it is very cynical in tone and not an accurate portrait of Charm City.

Outside sports, DVDs are the only way to watch television imo

Mad Men is fantastic on numerous levels.

If you never saw the first three seasons of 24, you missed some of the best TV ever made.

Lost has been up and down, but mostly a surreal mind-bender and a hell of a lot of fun.

Currently digging Doll House- try it on DVD next year.

I'm very curious about the show Life on Mars- looks cool, anyone watch it?

'Serenity' is an awesome little sci-fi series.

I know people who will NOT watch the 24 series as they feel (from the outside) that it is some purely 'neocon scaremongering terry-wrists type alarmist propaganda'.

I tell them it is not, - not at all. It merely seems that way from the outside.

In reality it is some of the most engrossing TV ever made. A 24 hour long non-stop nightmare roller coaster carnival ride. Which I find the best way to view..is when each season is released on DVD..and you watch them (episodes) one after another.

They say after the end of each season..'how can they crank up the tension again to make it fresh...that many times?' Yet they do. Each new season is even more wound than the prior.

Damn good stuff. Lest people think that Kiefer is all neconned up..have them watch the film, "Truth or Consequences, New Mexico"..which starred Kiefer. He directed it too. An awesome film.

Life on Mars was quite good. Worth seeing.

I only watch Canned TV. Not actual TV.

You can rent the original, Brit version of Life on Mars. It is pretty good.

The American version has a better ending , IMO. The show lasted only 1 season.

i was sorry to see them end "life on mars". harvey kietel is one of my all time favorate actors. one of the best lines is when the clueless new guy and harvey arrive on a scene and new guy says to the unit and the suspect at large "now, there's no need for violence" and harvey looks at him like a lost child and says "why not?". i thought the blond chick was pretty hot too in uniform. the clothes were horrible, the worst of the worst culled from thrift shops and the excessive hair. did anyone notice that most of the cruisers were cool mid 60's plymouths instead of the terrible looking early 70s cars with the bumpers hanging all over. yes, i was a fan.

I haven't turned on the stereo in 2 months.

But I practice 30 hours a week and teach about 22 hours per week plus going to concerts several times a week. So, during the long semesters I get a bit of listening burn out midway through.
That's when TV takes over for entertainment.

The semester just ended so I'm feeling the call of the stereo again

Well- many of what I sited I watched on DVD- in any case usually I watch something TV related only about 2-3 hours a week, though when I viewed those early seasons of 24, I often would stack up 2-3 episodes a night!
