Wow! It has been awhile ...
Warning: Old war story to follow. Saw ELP on the BSS tour around '75 with my new wife at the Anaheim Convention Center. They put up a quadrophonic PA running about 10,000 watts a channel. It was cruel and unusual (especially with Emerson's whirlybird grand piano spinning high above us- he spun with it
). Afterwards, when we could finally hear each other again, she said, "Jesus, that was like pulling a wire through your brain." That concert, Johnny and Edgar Winter, and J. Geils within about 2 months of each other really effed up my hearing. I heard ringing for about a year.
I second that emotion. Saw ELP with Edgar Winter opening in 1970 at the Syracuse War Memorial. That was the era when everything was deafening.
In fact, the first concert I remember that didn't hurt was the Dead in 75' at the same venue.
It's funny, because we saw Joe Lovano about a year ago up close in NYC and I remember thinking, 'Boy, this is loud.'

Interesting. Dug out "Lucky Man" (just the song) to play for offspring who were goggling at it when on the car radio. The reaction when I pulled out vinyl was funny.

Awesome, Sabbath! I get on a binge once in a while, too. Be it Sabbath, Uriah Heep, or Pink Floyd.
I did spin up Brownsville Station - Brownsville Station from 1977. It's the one with 'Martian Boogie', 'My Friend Jack' and '(Lady) She Put The Light On Me'. Was recording it over to the PC. Great album, unfortunately it's been OOP since the early 80's, label went under.
I am ripping the SACD of Ziggy Stardust to my computer. It sounds nice back here on the little system where I can sit at the computer, but I can't wait to hear it over the bigger system.
War Pigs is cool. It was the first time I smoked pot. They (older people with long hair and their own pad in Bayview, TX next to Clifton by the Sea) were playing Black Sabbath and watching Fred Astaire dancing on the television with the sound off and the lights off. I'll never forget that. Who needs music videos? Pft! I grew my hair long. I was probably 16 at the time. The older people were using the word "fuck" a lot. Shit like, "This is fucking cool" or, "Fuck that motherfucker". I loved it.

Agreed. I caught on to the Bowerbirds from seeing it on your blog and bought that album a week ago. So far I just like the tune on your blog among the rest, but its a talented artist.
That brings back memories... I believe it was the 90's when I bought the Acetone CD's. Probably haven't heard them in that long, but especially liked If You Only Knew. Sounds great on a good hifi too.
Last night I listened to Patrick Watson (an artist I revisited, after seeing him in concert this summer), and also "revisited" stuff from Ron Sexsmith's catalogue a lot, lately.
Found the "ABBA Gold" and the Fleetwood Mac "Rumours" at Costco. Had to get them as I never got the Fleetwood Mac LP.
Listened to them and the voice wandered all over the place and weak bass. Sounded like the speakers were connected in reversed phase. Then I remembered that I took the amp cover off to check something. Sure enough, the left channel speaker cables were reversed, and I couldn't see them in the dark part of the cabinet. Once corrected, sounds great.
Saw Fleetwood Mac in concert recently. Trust me, your reproduction sounds better. Even out of phase.

That's funny.
You could imagine how I felt when I was so sure that I had reconnected the speaker leads to the amp correctly after checking the inside of the amp, only to find that the left hannel was not correctly hooked-up. I didn't know whether to laugh or cuss.

Their stuff was recorded really really well. Looking forward to Tim Hecker's An Imaginary Country tonight. Some of the most overwhelmingly powerful ambient music I've ever heard.

This is a great thread. It is about music. Fuck last night. Tonight, I am listening to Miles Davis. I forget which one. Then, hungry for contrast, I put on a bit o' the King's Noyse. Ancient madness recreated for modern ignorance. After all, OUR generation seems to be fixated on the idea that madness was a thing of the past.
Next up is the Bernstein Mahler 3rd. On vinyl (O joy). And I'm just gettin' warmed up.
What IS this "Thump, thump, thump" from above my cell??? Sigh. Another Philistine seeking attention.
I am locked and loaded. If the sumbitch violates my perimeter, he is carrion. Now, back to what is important.
I am SO gone, back up to the mountains, where neighbors only howl and thump for food.
I've been at ground zero of NY 23 for the last month - the special election for Congress that was all over FoxNews/MSNBC/CNN.
So what I'm *not* listening to is all I care about: no robocalls and no - sweet Jee-bus - tv advertising, which rained down like carpet bombing.
I'm fit company only for the dogs right now, who don't care about such foolishness.
