Yes.

I have seen some really nasty stuff ignored, and yet other things get zapped just because they get slightly pissy.

Whatever policy exists, it does not seem to be evenly applied at present.

Some consistency would be appreciated!

I don't think there is a policy per se. I think it's done off the cuff and it just depends on the mood that one is in during that particular day. We've been crying for consistency for years to no avail. DUP's banned was applied very inconsistently and other posts got trashed for no clear reason either.

I don't care what standard you set; by any standard I can think of, DUP should have been banned a LONG time before he actually was.

He was given repeated second chances and did nothing to clean up his act; good riddance!

I think the point made was that there are no guidelines. Things are done on a whim and it's difficult to fathom why one person was banned and another wasn't or why one post was deleted, but a more offending one was not. There's no consistency.

Unfortunately, I don't know what posts you're talking about, so I'm sorry, but I can't help.

Whenever I delete posts, I send a PM to the poster letting him know that the post has been deleted and why. I take much more liberty in deleting posts from the Entry Level, because, as stated in the sticky notice, we want to keep that section particularly clean and on-topic for newcomers.

Alex, I don't see a problem with consistency here. ONE forum member has been banned -- DUP -- and we gave him many chances, and he abused our hospitality over and over again. The only mistake we made was in allowing him to stay as long as he did, adding fuel to a controversy which should have never began in the first place.

Where is the inconsistency?

Any more of your mentions of DUP will be deleted.

As I have told you in e-mails, all other members have shown redeeming qualities that outweigh any negatives.

Do you find this to be a rational statement?

Yeah, but you never said what those qualities were. You left me hanging. Hence, the perceived inconsistency. What constitutes good qualities vs bad? I, and apparently a number of others are left baffled.

I was wondering about that myself, but, screw it, you've left me no other choice. It's a dead topic and I'm tired of discussing it. I understand you miss DUP. Send him an e-mail, go visit him.

DUP became the equivalent to spam, turning nearly every thread he entered into a forum for his own personal agenda, killing threads and causing endless distraction. Even in his absence, it continues! Others here, with perhaps the exception of one or two, redeem any disruptions with good, thoughtful, positive posts. You had asked me specifically about one particular member. I can direct you to several outstanding posts made by that member. The same could not be said for DUP. DUP was far more noise than music.

You, I imagine, disagree with this. I'm sorry. I'm not changing my mind about this.

Hahahhaha Ok. From now on, I'll refer to him as "The poster formerly known as DUP". Maybe we can give him an unpronounceable symbol a la Prince.

You don't have to change your mind about it. It would be nice if you did, but it's your prerogative to do whatever. This discussion wasn't even about DUP. It was about inconsistencies in moderating practices. It started with deleted posts.

In any event, this is the first time you gave a concise reason why you banned him.

This is not correct, AlexO. Both Stephen and I have offered our reasons for finally banning "DUP" for this forum. You chose to ignore those reasons.

As Stephen said, any further post you make in which you bring up the subject of DUP being banned will be deleted. We allow posters to this forum a very wide degree of latitude, but there is eventually a limit to our hospitality.
