You're right. And it's not like I detest her music or anything! I do find her music pleasant to listen to.

And so, we are left to wonder: Will selfdivider stay or will he go? He has only a few hours to decide. I predict he will put the question aside for now, choosing instead to make up his mind at the very last moment...

I think that since he is "selfdivider", he will, in fact, divide and one self will go and the other self will stay. Problem solved. Oh the advantages of self division.

It's just what I would've done.

On a day like today, when it's so pretty out, I would've gone. Then the enormous crowd would've pissed me off, and I would've left without seeing anything.

Long story short, I didn't go.

I've seen her a few times and it's usually a good show. Really makes an effort to connect to the audience.

Funny story:

I know people around here are pretty well either love her or hate her- not sure why she evokes such strong feelings, but I like her well enough, and so does my very eclectic three year old son (usually). But the other day when he asked me to "play some JAZZ music Daddy," I put on one of her old ones, and after a few minutes he said: "NO! I want some REAL jazz music." Hahaha- cracked me up. Put on Coltrane's "Giant Steps" and all was well in the house again.

I have a similar situation here in my house. My daughter, who at 23, is just a little older than your 3 year old son, says that whenever put on some vocal jazz, like Andy Bey, that I must be getting old since I used to listen to real jazz. And just as you do by putting on some Coltrane I straighten things out by putting on little Cecil Taylor, Art Ensemble of Chicago or Ken Vandermark. Works like a charm.

As far as quasi-jazz vocals go, I prefer Holly Cole to Diana Krall or Patrica Barber. For real jazz vocals performed by a living singing (as opposed to a non-living singer like Billie Holiday) I like Karrin Allyson or Dee Dee Bridgewater.

Gotta go - time for some Peter Brotzmann to help clear my head after all this talk about jazz vocals. By the way, if you like jazz vocals I suggest that you listen to WBGO-FM out of Newark, NJ, any week day between 9:00am and about 7:00pm (EST) since the station never seems to play less than 50% vocals throughout the day, i.e. at least every other song is a vocal. You can even listen to them online at WBGO Live Stream, just don't let your son catch you

Hey jazzfan, How are you, its been a while. That, is truly a funny story, don`t really know what to make of it. Diana`s new one Quiet Nights, is very nice. She obviously liked Brazil from watching her video, thus the new recording. I`ve always wanted to go to Brazil myself, for the music. Brazilian Jazz is nice stuff. Picked up anything new in Jazz lately that you can recommend?
Meridian will be at Home Theater of Long Island in Manhasset on May 16th, demoing their new projecter, the 810, and top of the line DSP speakers. Finally I`ll get to hear their top flight gear. I`m excited.
