Having read Kal's review of the Parasound Halo P7, I'm wondering if my interpretation is correct:

Essentially the P7 is a really good $2K preamp with the added benefit of 7 channel inputs... rather than being just a very specialized product (with limited market appeal)...

(the other option that I assumed when I initially heard about the P7 was that it would just be a P3 with multi-channel inputs)

So in case all that was not clear:

If I was in the market for a $2K preamp (but didn't need multi-channel inputs) should I seriously consider the Parasound?

I would.

Honestly, I think that's the best possible answer to my question... Thanks!

I need your guidance to consider replacing my old Krell HTS 7.1 processor that I use only its Class A pre amplifier section for this HALO P-7 as a cleaner but more audiophile component?

I intend to keep using my OPPO BD-83SE as my blu-ray source with it`s Sabre 32bit DACs and my old and fantastic Linn Unidisc 1.1 to play my CDs, SACDs and DVD-As. So, no need to a processor and digital circuits. Also, my Michell ORBE coupled with a Nova Phenomena phono pre amp only needs analog quiet and short path.

But can the Parasound analog circuit surpass Krell class A pre amp present in the old HTS 7.1?

What do you think Kal? Is it worth a shot?

I will keep my mighty TAS from Krell to feed my Cremona M set. Will I loose the Krell pre/power synergy???

Doubts to upgrade always in the way.

I don't know.  Never compared the two and I have little experience with Krell.

All,

I am new to this forum. I have been reading a lot of comments and reviews on this forum. I am looking to upgrade my current AV processor to hopefully something much better. I mainly use the current setup for music (70%) while my wife loves to watch movies (30%),  My current setup is as follows:

BDP 95 - DVD< Streaming music and vidio files, CD's, SACD's etc

Pioneer Elite 84 TXSi  - AV Receiver (being used as a processor)

Emotiva XPA 5 - 5 Channel Amp

Magnepan 1.7 - Front, B&W -  Center and Surround speakers

Definitive Super Cube II - Subwoofer

Blue Jeans RCA Interconnects

Kimber Kable 12 TC - Speaker cables

The i am planning to replace my 5 yr old Pioneer Elite 84TXSi. I am exploring the following options

1) Integra 80.2 - Has XLR inputs, outputs and Audyssy XT32

2) Marantz AV 7005 - Has XLR inputs, outputs but lacks XT32

3) Parasound Halo P7 - All analog path? Musical nirvana?

4) Emotiva XSP 1 or Belcanto Preamp or Ayre used preamp - with HT bypass.

I am really confused w.r.to an AV processor route vs. a preamp with HT by pass since the Oppo 95 can decode all of the latest codecs, and it has very good D/A processor buitin. I am really confused between Integra 80.2, Parasound Halo P7 and Emotiva XSP1. My budget is 2k - 2.5k for the preamplifiers,  I am looking to get the best quality of of sound within my current budget but if i can get significant sonic improvements with less money i am all for it :). I am also considering an upgrade to my subwoofer - currently considering SVS PB12 Plus or the Dual SB-12 NSD's which will add an additional $1,100 - $1,400. I am also open to other suggestions that will work better with the Maggies. I would greatly appreciate any advise from audiophiles out there.

Thanks in advance for your help and inputs.

Thanks,

Shahir Shah
