Oh, I get it now. Bose, whose employees are actual people, getting laid off is a good thing. Nice. Fuck Bose and hip hip hooray for single moms.

Is that you, Jan?

It was a Bose joke, literal man.

Ya wanna rag me out for joking about a murderer like Darth Vader, too? Making light of that poor general's death.

"Fuck Bose?" You kiss your poor single mama with that mouth?

Question for the Moderators: And DUP's the one that gets banned? Why do we need this on the forum?

We don't, but it's how virtually every thread here gets "abused"....it's largely why I've stopped posting to any extent, after having been here only a short time, relatively speaking. People don't really discuss audio, or more importantly, music, they just argue back and forth, call each other names, and generally engage in character disparagement in just about every thread that I have read. Personally, I am really surprised that the moderators let this level of behavior go on. It's a real contrast to AudioKarma, Audio Circle and Steve Hoffman's forums, where folks are actually considerate and polite with one another....what a concept.

There's only one moderator for this forum as I understand it. Even if he did have a tight policy of deleting flame wars how the hell would he have the time to police it?
By the way, what are 'Steve Hoffman's forums'?

Well, they found the time to police DUP. Anyway, look here http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/ for Steve Hoffman's forums.

Bob

meh, flaming goes with the territory. forums mirror real life, just a bit magnified:different personalities(there exists here a healthy portion of know it all types, assholes, delicate flowers, sociopaths, average joes.)and all... the flaming doesn't bother me, personally. 'tis plenty of the back and forth "intellectual" talk in your favorite "coffee bar" or [insert favorite "intellectual":) hangout]..the flaming keeps it interesting. Besides...the flaming really allows the opportunity for the wheat to separate from the chaff!

lighten up, francis.

Well, Nc...I don't know if I agree...I think folks are more polite to each other n real life, on the whole, anyway. This kind of behavior often largely exists solely on the net, because folks can get away with it, rather than in real life. As an example, on a motorcycling forum, one person I knew kept making insulting remarks about another person's wife...and well, next time they saw each other, the husband cold-cocked the guy. As for going with the territory, I don't agree. That was my point about the other forums, where folks are polite and considerate of one another.

It's not just a matter of flaming being a bother or not. From my perspective it's simply a pain in the arse having to wade through pages and pages of pointless personal abuse of the childish 'he said , no you said, no I didn't' kind. However, given the stated rules for this place we can't expect the single moderator to ban every post that's childish and boring, can we? He'd be awfully busy if he did.
As to the forum being an 'intellectual hangout', I hadn't noticed but thanks for drawing our attention to it. We'll keep searching for all those gems of erudition we've obviously missed.

no, no.. I said the forum was not an "intellectual" hangout. (intellectual being used as a negative term..think one of those froofy coffee bars where the college students hang out and talk about literature)

at least not that ive noticed. it seems to be a place to let off steam and toss around bs. think of it as a pub with only one bouncer..and that bouncer is only about 5 ft 2 and covering 1000 people.

Likely I'm misunderstanding you...but I like literature! I bet a few others here do as well. Why is it ok to badmouth intellectual pursuits? Your new President elevated science in his inaugural speech. Haven't you heard?: smart is the new cool.

yeah..hell, I read my a lot..all the time... but a damn good many people people that label themselves as intellectuals are fucking idiots. specifically, anyone that refers to his or her-self as an "intellectual"

particular hatred for the maroons that converge on coffee shops armed with classic novels and jack kerouac quotes.

or Ayn Rand readers.

"Well, they found the time to police DUP."

Well, that's cause he posted like 68 posts (and 10 new threads) a day, hahah. I don't think every conversation degenerates into flame wars, and besides you're in the Rant n Raves section. The entry level and other equipment sections are generally pretty civilised.

A few around here do look for fights, or shock value, or both, but IMO they are just a loud minority. In this particular thread I think it helps just to see the humor in the whole drama of it.
