Based on just my first hour of listening so far:

I was pleasantly surprised by mostly non-boomy, non-exaggerated bass. Good strong bass, and a little different than the open-air Grado SR-60's, but my advance worry about that was soothed. Mostly, I was very involved and pulled into the music, and I was pleased by that. Was afraid that wouldn't happen but I got sidetracked from doing my intended chores and I sank back and listened.
I heard some hi-end BeyerDynamics years ago (model #?? but it was 3 digits and involved 9's - maybe 990 or 919 or something? and was impressed then. They had beautifully comfortable velour earpads. These DT-235's have a cheaper feel to their velour fabric, but on the ears it feels better than the pleather or foam that other ones in the price class tend to have.

I wanted to check out the Sennheisers too but inability to comparison shop (via listening) led to my somewhat arbitrary choice.

Doggone stores. I went into 2 "high end" stores and they had no interest in arranging a listen. At least it was brief. Nah, they told me, we don't open headphones for listening. Bye. That was that. They went back to reading stuff behind the counter.
