Have you gone out to audition any products?
If so, what did you hear in terms of tonality?
I live in Orlando Florida. They don't know what HI-FI is down here. Can't find any decent store that handle any decent gear. My gear has to be ordered.
I second Jan on auditioning, but I understand your plight. No one will sell Emotiva as they are direct only (I haven't heard an Emotiva amp yet, but they are quite appealing, and they have a good returns policy so you can effectively audition it before you're out of luck).
That said, there MUST be someone in Orlando that sells decent stuff. For example, I did a quick search of the McIntosh dealer list, and there is "Absolute Sound" in Winter Park, FL that is a McIntosh dealer. I'm sure if you check their website, they have more stuff as well.
While you can't audition the Emotiva, I would try to audition a few others just to get a feel for what you're looking for. You then can order the Emotiva if you still want to, try it in your home, and send it back if you don't like it.
You could just order the Emotiva now, but I don't want you to regret it later when you've heard some other equipment.
It would be really nice to know what, exactly, you're trying to improve upon.
From this it looks like you can buy and try for 30 days and get your money back if you don't like it:
