Finally: a PC that reads/records SACD from Sony!

Interesting indeed. I just bought a FZ485U that comes with a BluRay read/write drive, the Sonic Mastering STudio, ability to upconvert and play DSD. There's no mention of recording SACD. I thought that one issue was control of the SACD writeable discs themselves. Where would I buy one to try recording??? I thought that they were only available for commercial purchase.

If this is true, then I'll be converting my LPs to SACD, perhaps after buying another Sony.

But I'm not getting my hopes quite yet. There's got to be a caveat or two or thirty. Kal, what do you think?

Not clear what it really does. It may be able to write a DVD with DSF files on it as I doubt Sony is now letting us all copy and write SACDs. There is a thread on AudioAsylum that discusses the relevant issues. Since I have just received an SCD-XA5400EX for review, it is of great interest to me, too.
AA thread

Lotta people were excited by this pc, but it turned out to be too good to be true. They can play Blu-Ray and dvds and rip SACD, though I'm not sure they even rip the hi-rez layer. You can upconvert your audio w/Sony's Soundstage software (which really blows as music software goes, imho) to SACD 5.1, but nobody makes a drive that can burn discs playable in an SACD player. I've read that Sony does not plan on making a pc drive that can do this, as they'd like to keep the format for pre-recorded music. Hopefully, they will lose their patent and some less stingy company will start making good stuff for the rest of us.

That's a bummer, but not really surprising from Sony.

I kinda figured that but I believe that the discs will play on the SCD-XA5400ES.
