Dear Dougy,

I almost bought the review pair of Klipsch LaScala, but they are pretty difficult to store when reviewing other speakers. My wife, Marina, would not let me deposit them in the dining room : (

I miss them greatly and may yet buy another pair when, in a year or two, we move into smaller digs. If they had been cherry finish instead of walnut, I would have kept them for sure. The current Klipsch LaScala is truly a great loudspeaker: few others do dynamics so well -- I am talking real dynamics, or what audiophiles call "macrodynamics" -- and at the price they are a steal. And if you think big horn-loaded speakers don't image, well, you haven't heard the LaScala's. Enjoy. I sure did.

Dear Sam:

Thank you so much for your review of the La Scala II. Not only did you have the courage to review a "retro" loudspeaker, you were thoroughly honest about how it sounded. At least you know what an updated compression-driver speaker sounds like. Besides, your comment about your weight in 1963 was probably the funniest I've ever read in a review. Great !!

I hope more designers pick up on this new advance in rear-loaded horns. I believe they have far greater potential than direct radiators, as I discussed in my thread "distortion in loudspeakers". Let it be known !!!

JPH

P.S. I can't seem to find any of your loudspeaker reviews on the Stereophile website. Why aren't they posted ?

Sorry to hear it didn't work out to keep the la scalas. They are big and meaty, aren't they. And I agree; they are a steal at the price.

Oh, and by the way, custom veneers are available in almost any finish imaginable - for a nominal fee.
