\I've had so many drinks I'll reply to myself.
Hey , can you let DUP in the bar?
teh, teh teh, shot shot shot
Drinks not a drink with less than 10 shots per glass. reidel crystal is snake oil
Ahhh Looks cool in here. Yeah let Dup in......look fwd to reading and trolling
I've got this really great little glass from Lower Alabama...makes my Patron taste much smoother....like the high end is more......open?
Agreed -great idea Stepehen.
The "Open Bar" is a great idea -and in the nick of time, in my opinion. The good folks over at Klipsch LLC did much the same with their forum and everyone seems to be happy with it. Like the wise audiophile said, if you can't stand the heat...(avoid class A amplification ).
Oh yeah, as for bringing back DUP, even to just the Open Bar, I'd vote "NO" (if I had a vote). Have any of you read his posts that are in "The Dead Zone" I'm ashamed to even see them there and think they should be deleted from all existence asap!
I'm almost too afraid to ask but what IS 'The Dead Zone'?
Shame about Class A. I was once seduced by a pair of Nelson Pass's monsters until I got my first electricity bill. In the part of the world I ran them in you had to have the air-conditioning running full blast in summer to compensate. Now I'm a happy little Class A/B ecologically saintly person with a very green Boulder integrated replacing a Parasound P/HP 850 pre-amp (modified), a Prototype (Class A to 35W) bi-polar 90W SS power amp plus 2 Musical Fidelity 550K Superchargers although I have to confess to the sin of running a few tubes (valves ?) in my phono pre-amp but they produce very little heat. Makes life a lot simpler........ excuse me for wandering off topic, the mention of this Dead Zone place has got me in a tiz.
The Dead Zone is a place the editors put some threads that have gone too far. It is not about your IQ so relax.
I was beginning to question the wisdom when 99% of the posts were pure BS in the Open Bar, but now things have calmed down and lots of people (at least in terms of this site's normal volume) are talking about audio in the regular forums.
Dave
The problem hadn't occurred to me in that context, even though I've probably got more dead cells up there than you've had breakfasts. Thanks for your concern anyway. I've since found the zone and can't quite see what's so horrible about DUP's postings. Maybe he/she/it has a long history of flaming I'm not aware of that hasn't been recorded there?
Yeah, there were some nasty things said about genocides, as well as Holocaust denial. I heard from a lot of other guys that DUP is actually a really chill guy, and I don't doubt it. But his online persona just wasn't as winning as his real one, not by a long shot.
I think that the biggest problem with DUP was really that he didn't know when to stop. Personally, I like DUP, I met him on numerous occasions and I find him to be quite cordial.
I didn't see the postings that SelfDivider is referring to. I wish I did so that I could have seen its context and had a conversation with DUP about it and perhaps help put things right.
Given that we have an open bar section, I don't think it would be a bad idea to bring DUP back and confine him to this section. The section description gives ample warnings to new members so that they wouldn't be scared off. Let's bring the guy back. He's not the devil personified.
I think it might be OK to have DUP back in the Open Bar section as it can be easily side-stepped. I didn't hate the guy either- sometimes thought his posts were in fact pretty funny. Just WAAAAAAY too many of them though and too often a barrier to balanced discussion. To be fair, he's not the only offender around here who likes to jump and take over and rant.
I think someone recently sort of hit on what may have been the real problem: Rants n Raves actually is the most like a "General Audio" section a lot of posters use, and he just had a habit of kind of overwhelming the entire section. Many threads got either buried or taken over. But now the Open Bar section is the true "off topic" area and not an area newbies would go to post questions or new ideas.
Look out for those Thai red-light masseuses Alex- I knew a guy who lived there and he said that despite the fact that they are all "government approved" it doesn't mean they don't carry a lot of, ahem, baggage they might pass on. Must be nice to be getting in some warm weather though. Just hope those airports are cleared out by the time you want to come back!
I think you could forget any semblance of "open" if you invite DUP back. It would just be one repetitive rant after another. Might as well just give him his own section and call it The DUP Zone. DUP's posts are like kudzu- eventually the life is choked out of wherever they spread.
I was appalled when DUP began inserting his predictable comments in the RMAF report, sullying that dialogue as well. While I had no say in his banning, I think it is a good thing. I only wish that some other forum regulars would stop bickering and throwing around four-letter words at newcomers. No one should have to feel the need to don an excrement shield before approaching this forum.
jason victor serinus
one shouldnt have to wade through political nonsense when reading the magazine, either, Mr. Serinus,
DUP was alright in my book, at least the core of what he was saying.. he was a bit repetitive, though. I wish there were more skeptics amongst us.
I'd love to get a link to those comments if anyone has it .
Thanks Doug. I don't indulge in "gov't approved" masseuses. I had a real Thai massage done and everything hurt for days afterwards. Feels great now though.
Here's a little educational video I shot the other day.
I thought we were at the top of the food chain. BTW, I brought home a pizza with an unidentifiable bug embedded in the crust last week (probably a baby cockroach), so at least you were getting an entymology lesson.
Did you eat any of these?
On the same subject, that is 'baggage', if you find yourself in a Thai hospital DON'T allow them to give your a blood transfusion.
I had the grasshoppers. They don't really taste like anything. They're crunchy, sort of like something in between deeply fried onions and peanut peels. Once I got over the initial apprehension, it was all good.
Thanks for the heads up, JS. I don't plan on being in a Thai hospital, but who knows? My friend Stew went to Shri Lanka a few years ago and got hit by a car at 50mph. I think there's one car in all of Shri Lanka and he had to get hit by it. So, I guess you never know.
