thanks bud. My dad still collects them, and now that they arent used any more, he says that BEMC(the Utility Place he works for, (though he has long been promoted way up the chain from lineman) has hundreds of them not being used(they have done away with them altogether). I will probably grab a lot more of them, as many as can fit in my storage room.. if anyone wants some, just shoot me a private message, and ill send a few out gratis.

I agree that they can't do any harm, and if the price is right, then why not try them, if one wants to.

Now that that's out of the way, what possible plausible effect could they have?

Sir, that isnt something I can even answer. I havent read many reports on the cable elevation practice. ive heard that they make a difference, and they were free, so i figured what the hell?
http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue36/elevators.htm

heres an ad though......
******Elevate' your musical experience with the best cable supports on the market! You can gain significant improvements in the sound of your audio or home theater system by elevating your speaker and power cables off the floor. The improvements you will hear in detail and dynamics are not subtle. Many of you have already reported tremendous increases in clarity, tonal accuracy, and dynamics with Cable Elevators in place. Produced by a leading manufacturer of porcelain isolators, Cable Elevators are then coated with a non-conductive glaze to further reduce noise and a special non-slip foot for added stability with today's heavier cables. Cable Elevators are a simple, affordable tweak greatly enhancing the sonic presentation of your entire system and helping with cable management.

Also available individually. Click here.

'The damn things do lower noise, increase dynamics, remove haze, and open up the top octaves. Once you listen to their effects, even a skeptic like me has to admit that it is hard to take them back out of the system. Music sounds more like music with the Cable Elevators in place. I recommend them strongly, especially given their price!'

I guess I group cable elevators in the category of "Be sure to vacuum out the back seat of your Buick for better gas mileage!" but they sure do look cool!

I can only imagine an effect if cables were positioned on something like nylon carpet that can build up a significant static charge or maybe a stone floor that acted as some form or earthing - but what would be getting earthed? Who knows? A few years ago I installed the devices below as a joke when having an audiophile listening night. I'm damned if I could hear any difference but a few who attended swore my system had never sounded better and was worse when the insulators were removed. The devices themselves were given to me by the linemen installing a transformer that stepped down 22,000 volts to the Australian domestic supply of 240 volts suppling my rural property. I've still got 10 of them packed away somewhere. Maybe I should sell them on ebay but what the hell would I advertise them as and who'd (be silly enough?) to pay the postage on them? They weigh a ton.

As this is my first attempt to attach an image link here I hope it works - - fingers crossed.

If I remember correctly they were cheap Ixos multi-stranded copper in a bi-wire configuration. In those days I was a cable sceptic. I've since learnt such things do matter even though I also still think a great % of the overpriced esoterica out there is no more than superstitious junk at a rip-off price.

I have been researching the effects of cable risers. Here is my current setup. I am currently looking into the differences between brown glass beer bottles vs. clear glass hand blown Patron bottles. I will post results as soon as I get enough Patron bottles.

Not sure resting cables directly on nozzles of Helmholtz resonators is the way to go necessarily.

stuff from ces 1997 - Gallo Reference speakers, the triangle thing is one-of-a-kind amp from Mapleshade associate inSound. All Mapleshade cabling, wiring; Nakamichi Dragon CD System (with vacuum seal around CD transport) isolated on Machina Dynamica's Nimbus Sub-Hertz Platform (blush).

There those out there go again, nay saying without trying.
First of all they are not Helmholtz resonators because I didn't use German Beer. Second, I used the resonance of the bottles to my advantage by varing the volume in them to tune the response of my rooms acoustics.
I did notice at first that the more bottles that I added improved the sound of my system, the next day I wasn't so sure. It seemed to give me a headache and the smell of stale beer didn't help.
My apologies to those out there that are too serious for this stupidity.

They might stop static electricity in the rug from getting into the wires and into the speakers.
