Is there latest one any good? I have it actually - but in casual listening it didn't grab me like the previous ones at all. So I haven't gone back to it...

Awww c'mon, it isn't as if I'm a fan of My Chemical Romance, Britney Spears, or that Twilight movie.

I personally found their latest to be their best overall album (although there are better individual songs on others). I don't think most people share my view.

Too bad their breaking up, but maybe good solo efforts will come out of it.

At least they're going on a relatively high note, at the peak of their career, before they come crashing down. I'm sure Apple's dad isn't too keen on having to contend with the critics' scorn for Coldplay, either. I do hope some interesting independent projects come out of this breakup, though.

Aside from my dissing of Coldplay, I do admit I'm rather fond of that gorgeous music video they did for the song, "Trouble." Kind of captured that terrible malaise I'd been feeling when I was younger, back then.

If I were married to Gwenith Paltro I'd want to spend more time at home too.

. . . Plus it sets them up for the big money reunion tour in 5 years while they are still young enough to really enjoy the cash.

Makes me glad I saw them live a month-or-so ago (although I am sure they will re-form if not reform many times yet ). It was a truly kick-ass concert, they played and sang well and postured like the megastars they are; stadium rock at its best. I think the audience lifted them as well, a sellout crowd at least two thirds comprising panting Swedish teenies. Ahem. The lighting/ multimedia accompanying the show was excellent too.

Have to confess I do like Coldplay (and Viva is probably the one played most often around the house) although I don't really like them any better or worse than many other current bands like Keane, Travis, Snow Patrol etc.

Interestingly we saw Keane a couple of weeks later and it was only upon seeing them live that it struck me what a fantastic singer Tom Chaplin is. He has a really beautiful tone and his range and breath control are really exceptional, even when he is leaping around. You can think what you like about the music but the guy has a terrific singing voice.

That was a great gig too, but a very interesting juxtaposition against Coldplay. Coldplay played Globen, the biggest indoor venue in Stockholm (capacity 16,000) and sold it out necessitating an extra night which also sold out. Keane played the Annex, a side venue with a capacity of about 2,000. Even though the tickets cost about half what the Coldplay tickets cost they were still available on the door. I am sure it gave Tim Rice-Oxley pause for thought...

Coldplay is dead?

I didn't even know they were sick!

Anyways, thanks for telling me, otherwise I never would have known.

(I do admit to liking Yellow when I'm three sheets.)

This is NOT the first time Coldplay have said that it is over. After their XY album they said that they were no more. No wonder they have said it again after their newest album. In my opinion this latest album is even worst than the XY album and I couldn't believe that the same Brian Eno who produced The Talking Heads and David Bowie produced Coldplay's album. They will not be missed.

Heh- Yeah, well I'm not going to even get into defending them or anything, but I think they have their merits. I pretty much hated them out of principal for a number of years due to their out of proportion popularity, Pink Floyd-ish demeanor and lyrics, and rabid fan loyalty. Then, on my own I started to listen with more open ears, saw them on a Austin City Limits show (televised) and realized they had something going on.

I think their recent album is very good- and BTW they ALL sound much, much better on vinyl. I hate the insane sonic loudness/compression off their CDs.

Sometimes you can seriously miss out on something good just because you think you're too cool to be part of a trend. I wouldn't give Beck a chance for years due to many of the above reasons and now I realize they guy really IS great, and one of my new favorite artists. I've been steadily buying up his back catalog and haven't been disappointed yet.
