Im not a goddam atheist, im a goddam agnostic you goddam *******

You still spell like DUP. Mr. Agnostic. You should be banished. Run out on a pole.

I guess DUP is lucky that he was just banned. In light of all the religious/historical notes previously mentioned, centuries ago, DUP would have probably been declared a heretic and burned at the stake. He's gone, let's move on. We just may see him soon on an infomercial selling Men's razors!

I think I get your conveyance. You have a point. One of my cousins was killed instantly in a car accident. He was driving. It was his fault. The guy with him basically walked away from the accident. Long story short. Myself and this guy that survived are standing together viewing my cousin's open casket. We were just standing there in silence viewing my poor dead cousin. Finally, I broke the silence by stating, "Look at that lump of shit!"

Whatever

If it feels good to label people as shit at their furneral then your personna is clearly displayed for people to see.

I just have my own beliefs and opinions and that annoys the hell out of someone like you.

do we have to get into religious bashing here?
I find this stuff offensive and out of line.

I have deep respect for the deer departed. This site is boring and dull without the insight and knowledge and logical mentions of such a wise person such as DUP. The ramblings and drones of the highly ill informed about audio devices is a testament to the basic stupidity of the avg consumer. DUP merely gave his ideas of how foul the audio high end business is wretchedly filled with blather and falsehoods. I only recently signed up, but have been following these forums for some time, I had to say my 2 cents worth on the mistreatment of certain individuals, that speak and post the realities, while others continue to post utter crap and babble. May DUP be watching over your next purchase. What a shame. Consumer friendly this is not.

First, isn't that what we're doing? You're doing? At DUP's funeral? Get it? But interesting you would use the word, "hell", in that last sentence.

Well, as usual, pretty much all that needs to be said, already has, and a lot more that doesn't too, but I'll add my 2 cents anyway.

I had my ups and downs with DUP as a member- sometimes he was funny, occasionally half-right, often a bore. I certyainly didn't hate him or go out of my way to goad him (mostly). But man the dude could take up air time! And I don't know about others but this forum is already just a slice of my free time squeezed into a hundred other things, and he made that time even harder by having to wade through all his junk. And any given thread was constantly under threat of being consumed by his barrages of text! In the end, he has only himself to blame as it's really not that hard to use common sense post limits and show minimal respect to other members. That's what a forum is all about- a discussion, NOT a platform.

The thing is, this is not free-speech issue or even remotely like some kind of institutional persecution. It's clearly a case of taking averages and DUP didn't fit the curve. But to equate it with something like government repression is not only silly, it's disrespectful to the very real people, who have suffered very real harm all over the world when real rights have been trampled.

This is an online PERSONA in a privately run discussion forum. DUP the member is gone, but the guy behind the words can be called up on the phone, invited out for dinner, and taken along to audio showrooms and still live his life freely and without repercussions. The persona is dead, not the man- big difference.

But let's put it another way- if DUP was like he is online at a real public space, say the local bar, just how long would he last at such an establishment? A week, a few days? How many bartenders would put up with a lunatic accosting every patron within earshot about (name your subject) for hours at a time? Not many. He'd be outta there! Ya see- Freedom, is NOT free. It's a right that only can come with responsibility. People all over the planet are dying for REAL free speech, but we cry foul when our online toys get taken away? Come on- think about it.

I have to deal with this issue every day with my two year old son and his friends. You don't get to play if you can't respect the other kids around you. Period. It's real easy. DUP couldn't do it for some reason. He just couldn't share the space! As many have pointed out- he's free to start his own blog and it's a simple thing to do. Again, I never hated the guy and don't at all now. But you have to play nice or you don't get to play.

there should be a SOP with posting guidelines.

If this were someone on the other side of the coin(one of the fringe audiophile types) ranting about magic dust, mpingo, and cd lathes, would that person suffer the same treatment?

If he behaved as Carl (DUP) did, of course the treatment would be the same. Carl's transgression had nothing to do with _what_ he said -- in fact, the post which decided his fate was one in which he was completely correct in what he said. It was _how_ he said what he said, his constant badgering of others, espcially newbies, that led to his fate. dbowker had it exactly right.

This was not a decision taken lightly or hastily. But it was the correct decision.

DUP rarely attacks people. --Ethan

He repeatedly attacked me for being an senior engineer for a major defense company despite the fact that I don't have an engineering degree. I get it, I deal with the same issue daily at work.

Indeed, as well as regularly insulting and attacking others for their views.

The engineering attack is particularly inappropriate when you consider that we are all often pretending to be EE's when posting here.

This IS a rants and raves segment of the forum. Not expecting attack is pretty silly. Still, it is a private forum and the owners can ban anyone for any reason.

I want to thank you for that information. Did the rest of you guys know that? You could of told me any day now. Technically speaking, as The Science Guy, they don't actually own the forum. They have a license to use agreement with the true owner of the forum, which is totally different than purchasing tangible personal property. UBB has the ability to ban them (Stereophile) for any reason. But they (Stereophile) can ban anyone for any reason. Sort of like your kid coming home from McDonald's crying because his name is no longer on the schedule and hasn't been for several weeks. Getting banned from McDonald's must be a bitch to explain to a teenager. Its part of the Internet food chain except where McDonald's is concerned the whole high school knows about your kid getting banned from McDonald's before you do thanks to texting.

There is a distinction between having your ideas subject to scrutiny and personal attacks.

The later is uncalled for, especially when it is a first posting by a new user.

Contrarian views are welcome. Gratuitous personal attacks are not.

Frankly I find it disturbing that this distinction is hard to grasp for some.

Doug did a great job explaining the problem(s) with DUP.

The nice thing about internet forums is that we don't have to listen in real time to any viewpoint that we don't want to hear. Don't like that poster, skip. Don't like an opposing viewpoint, skip. My viewpoint is still safe.
