Would you re-cartridge or re-tip this?

I liked the Stantons at the time, but it probably is not worth retipping it. Cartridge suspensions get old and fail. It probably doesn't work right any more. I would instead look for a nice new cartridge.
Thank you. I expect you're right but I'll ask this anyway:
The replacement stylus assembly for the Stanton contains the suspension - I think - that's my limited understanding of how it works. Is there any suspension otherwise in the cartridge? I don't think so. The cartridge played records fine in a recent brief auditioning... [image]http://www.needledoctor.com/Stanton-D-6800-EEE-MK-III-Stylus?sc=2&category=76[/image]
I don't know enough about cartridge innards to know specifically what ages, what doesn't age, etc. so I do not want to hazard a guess.
Maybe someone else knows specifically.
I dig. I can ask you and the world the question from another angle: If I don't re-stylus the thing for $70, what cartridge would you recommend for $75 or less?
My Sumiko Oyster served me pretty well. After having some time to compare it with another cart, I've realized the thing is actually pretty quiet and tracks well. And, unlike my Bias 2 (which hopefully will be replaced) outputs evenly to both channels. There's also the Sumiko Black Pearl, and the Grado Black Prestige.
i've used a grado red with success, but i think it was more like $110.
I kick the budget up 15 bucks and just buy this:
Shure M97XE
I think Grado is a great line, even for their entry-level carts. I have happily moved up through the range over the years and never had one I didn't like. I love the Rega 'tables but I thought my Rega cart was only so-so.
Yes. The Grado Green Prestige is in the right price range for this budget, as well!
Grado Green Prestige
I was going to recommend the Shure M97xE, but when I checked at Needle Doctor the price was $140! Maybe it's a good time to jump on that Music Direct offer.
