Room Treatment Wainscoting? I like it. This could be great for overall absorption. Deep enough (4-6") it could be a great help with the bass as well, nice shelving could be placed on top.

Then one would need just some ear height centered panels for first order reflections.

OK, so, could we do it with Home Depot / Lowe's supplies? I like your idea of a shelf top!

I did it a little wider than that. I purchased several 2" thick OC703 panels in 1'x4' and 2'x4' sizes covered in a neutral GOM. The 2x4s are placed with their 2' dimension vertical and 1' from the wall. The 1x2s go on top and anchor to a little strip screwed to the wall. Creates a 4'x2'x1' wainscot/shelf along the front wall of my CT room. A sheet or 2 of 3" thick OC705 in each still leaves room for me to run my speaker cables across that wall unseen.

Ethan, feel free to steal the idea, but I get a lifetime supply.

Been there, done that. The problem with room treatments isn't so much the appearance of each piece, but that they need to be large and you need a bunch of them. People sometimes ask if we'll silk screen movie posters etc on our panels. But to me that's the least of it.

A thin band around the ceiling perimeter is nowhere near large enough for bass trapping, and it's the wrong place for side-wall reflections. Kal has the right idea, and his DIY trap is much larger than that. It's also complemented with two RealTraps Tri-Corners in the rear hiding behind speaker stands as shown below.

How about getting a few sheep or big furry dogs for your listening room.
What about getting committed to an insane asylum with its absorbant walls? Should be an easy convince for all of you psycho audiophiles.

You forget that those padded walls do nothing for bass response, and work primarily on mids and highs. Plus, those square room with high ceilings are less than ideal configurations for any system. The fact that they don't have outlets on any of the walls is biggest drawback of all however...

That would totally interfere with my DIY elctroconvulsive therapy program.

In my experience, the dimensions of my room seem to have no effect on the location of where the voices in my head come from. In my massive amount of spare time I have experimented with various carvings of anti-reflective designs in the absorbant materials provided to me. Schroeder Diffusors, MLS Diffusors,Quadratic Diffusors, and Primitive Root Diffusors. Still the voices in my head only talk to me.

Well, what else would expect voices in your head to do?

Now, if you could get them to sing, you might be able to ditch the Hi FI gear, altogether.

Remember when you ran away and I got on my knees and begged you not to
leave because I'd go berserk?? Well...
You left me anyhow and then the days got worse and worse and now you see
I've gone completely out of my mind.. And..
They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa
To the funny farm. Where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be
happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!!!

You thought it was a joke and so you laughed, you laughed when I had said
that loosing you would make me flip my lid.. RIGHT???
I know you laughed, I heard you laugh, you laughed you laughed and
laughed and then you left, but now you know I'm utterly mad... And..

They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa,
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa.
To the happy home. With trees and flowers and chirping birds and basket
weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!

I cooked your food, I cleaned your house, and this is how you pay me back
for all my kind unselfish loving deeds.. Huh??
Well you just wait, they'll find you yet and when they do they'll put you
in the ASPCA, you mangy mutt!!! And...

They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa.
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa.
To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be happy
to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're coming

weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes and they're

To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time... (fade out)

Hey, buddy!
Yes officer..
You a head?
No, but I'm catching up, ha ha ha....

Does anyone besides me remember what was on the reverse side of this 45 rpm?

Since you graced me with the consideration of a reply, let me indulge myself...

If you were between the age of 8 and 13 years around 1966, you would have been digging one of the very first "rap" records. On the reverse side it played backwards. (Mock shock.)
