Now, this is the stuff I like to read about. Nice write!
Now, wait a minute! I looked that up in the 1993 Orion Book and this is what it states.
What the hell you got there? Post some pictures.
Military?
Do we have clearance to see any pics?
Oh, heck yeah we do! Looks who's running for president on side and vice president on the other. Of course we all have clearance.
HA!
BTW, if anyone was wondering, I'm 16, and my father got the system before I was 2...
Here's the receiver in replay mode from a cassette. It has user assignable input names. A very useful feature.
And replay from vinyl:
It's got a LOT of battle scars.....but not as bad as one would expect from a receiver that survived 3 years at a rowdy teenagers house and use at the hands of a child that was 9-12....
As to the military angle, no clue....
Mayeb it needed to be military spec to survive.
Assignable inputs are very handy.
Prolly did. I still don't have any inkling as to why it's still working.
It's got a few problems, but nothing that I don't think I can handle. Mainly re-soldering the inputs, as they are not making good contact with the main board and I can feel that they are loose.
It's also got assignable spaces for radio station call letters for all 30 presettable stations. So I can program it to display the call letters, which are slightly more interesting than the frequency.
I can imagine. Thanks for following up with some pictures.
Perhaps it was only sold though an overseas military exchange. I bought some Teak professional tape stuff in Italy in the late 1970's that was not available in the USA at the time.
My father got out of the Military in 1971 or -2, o I doubt that that's it, and he told me that he bought it new from a store...
I don't know why its listed in the Orion book as military. There are separate entries for the STR-AV1070 and the STR-AV1070X (MILITARY). Anyone else got any Orion books and can look this up as well?
gray market maybe...that was a big problem in the 70s and 80's with military designated gear in overseas exchanges.
Nah, the timeline is like this. His dad was discharged from the military in 71 or so. The receiver was manufactured in 1991.
