Interesting that multi-channel out is HDMI only, and that preference for 2 CH or Multi is back panel switchable!
Surely Kal will give this a spin.

Looks nice, Does someone need to send him a note on what a receiver is? It went from an interesting item, to another nice player. oh well.
cheers,
It's nice to see Sony doing something with SACD again. Balanced outputs, now we're talking. I bet the cottage industry of modders are going to have a field day.
Yes indeed. See Kal's Komments on this player at

With the single tray looking front panel and no mention in the limited Sony information on this new player I am curious how the multi-disc option is implemented. You can make out in the KR report that the display card does indicate multidisc. It must be a feed one-at-a-time loader.
You wonder why Sony would do this when they won't even support the format with software. It is almost like the left hand does not know, or care, what the right hand is doing! Puzzeling.
Sony is a case study in the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. Sony succeeds in spite of their marketing and decisions, not because of them.
A one at a timer sure seems painfully slow. It could possibly be a removable cartridge similiar to those used in auto multi disc players.

RG,
One can only wish that this is some kind of "sign" that Sony may intent to support the format a little bit more...maybe pressing SACDs 2 days a week, at least. One can only dream about what Sony might do. I do hope this is a killer player for $1500 and the price stays there for a while.
They may be tired of Marantz rubbing their face in the gear side of the business. Marantz is certainly a great participant in SACD hardware. You would certainly think they are capable of doing what Marantz, Creek, Rega, NAD, and the folks at Cambridge are doing in the 2-channel market place, but, you must have the will.
