PB13 review

I read the PB13 review by Larry Greenhill and would like to comment on the review. First of all, they claimed the specs wrong. The driver has a 3'' excursion capability, not 2'' claimed in the review.

How is the PB13 95lbs lighter than the REL when there is only 50lbs difference? (205-155=50)

The reviewer compared the PB13 to dual JL f113s and claimed the JLs produced deeper soundstage. Isn't that unfair since dual subs will almost alway give a deeper soundstage?

Larry Greenhill claimed that the PB13's deep bass was less shuddering than the more expensive subs. Isn't the PB13 supposed to shine in deep bass output? According to outdoor measurements, it takes more than 2 JL or 2 DD18 to match a single PB13 in deep bass output. (It takes 4 DD18s (95dB) to match the output at 20Hz of a single PB13 (108dB)!!) Isn't the PB13 suppose to be much better than the JL, Velo and REL in deep bass output?

I thought a speaker, especially a subwoofer review, is supposed to include both music and home theater performance reviews. But it was only a music review. Home theater is where the PB13 just kills the JL, Velo, and REL compared in the review. It is where the PB13 shines and outperform competitors by a mile. I find it strange that Larry Greenhill didn't review the sub with movies and unleash its deep bass potentials.

I hope Larry Greenhill can comment on the comments above. Please tell me what you think of the review.

Nope. Home Theater is a different magazine. We just do music.

He corrects the review in the forthcoming October issue. (Which reminds me: I still have to correct the text in the on-line reprint.)

To reinforce what Kal Rubinson said, Stereophile ignores movies in favor of music.

Thanks Kal and John for your responses. Kal, when you said Stereophile was an all music magazine and home theater is a different magazine. Do you mean there is another magazine owned by Stereophile that is all home theater?

John, do you care to elaborate on what the corrections are in the October issue?

BTW my original post has been edited to emphasize the PB13's deep bass output after finding some number's on the DD18's deep bass output.
