How come Jim got his print issue before the digital issue is available? You'd think that a digital issue would be out first?

It's 'cause he pays full retail at the local dealer's.

I thought it was because he was a shoplifter.

Appreciate the positive comments, Jim. This was Stephen Mejias's first issue in which he was involved as Acting Managing Editor, Elizabeth Donovan having quit at the end of June.

And you got your September issue just 2 days after we received our advance issues in the office!

Thanks very much, guys. JA and the writers have been very patient and encouraging, and our freelance designers -- Natalie Baca and Pip Tannenbaum -- help to make our jobs fun and much less stressful.

Alex, while there is some variance to when the print subs arrive, the digital sub is delivered in strict accordance with the official on-sale date, which is August 19th. You should receive your digital edition then.

I request that you put me at the end of the mailing list so as to stop the angst. I may regret this as I am about to be 61 and my next issue may come a day LATE! NO, it is not LOL. Oh, go ahead! Makes one wonder just how "connected" I am?

I'm going to reserve most of the comments for after I read this issue, but: Stephen, you rock, dude. I've no doubt that this September issue is as beautiful a copy of Stereophile as ever.

Yup, when SM is off to Stockholm to pick up his Nobel Prize in Audio Publication, we'll be able to say we knew him back in the day.

I can't stand the wait, I'm going to Borders to get an issue.

____

When I saw the title of the thread, it reminded me of Vladimir Putin for some reason.

Sooloos Music Server System gets 12 pages, two reviewers and JA's measurements!

Is this a Sphile record for longest review?

Can't wait to see how long the thread runs!

Yup. I think the only other review of comparable length was by Robert Harley on a complete AudioNote system about 12 years ago.

Someone will have to mention double-blind testing to kick it into high gear :-)

Stephen,

That would be cool, you can stay at my place. And once you're done eating jumbo shrimps with the king we can go on a vinyl hunt.

I'm sure you'll love Stockholm, some of the natural sights are breathtakingly beautiful.

I wonder if Putin stays at the Ritz hotel whenever he's in NYC. Hmmm....

I am afraid this IS the future. it may not be for older guys likea me, but for a 20 something just starting out a music collection it makes sense to me. I would keep my vinyl-vinyl, but all my digital tracks would be uploaded and "served".

I keep thinking of the music collections that the likes of JA and AD have and know how possibly impractical inputting all that wouuld be.

I have been loading at least 4 discs a day into my old HP windows 98 computer to make it a cheap music server. I use a M-Audio DIO 2448 card for redbook audio and it sounds decent into my office system. I'll be adding a second 500 gig HD soon. I do get the concept.

As JI pointed out, with a Benchmark DAC the sound is pretty remarkable. To me only a way over the top audiophile would find the RME card wanting...once the ground was lifted.

With 1 T Byte HD...what is not possible? How far behind can the 500 gig IPod be? If the less thaqn stellar Mac server is $6500, than the Sooloos seems like a bargain. I can understand how a Web Monkey is IN! As the price comes down, more will jump in.

If we have learned anything in this digital age, it is convenience that drives the largest portion of the market. If you can now add high end sound qualtiy to accessiblity...what is not to like?

Sounds like fun, Struts. My sister and her husband just got back, actually. (He has family there.) My sister said it was beautiful in every way. She only had a difficult time getting used to the 20 hours of daily sunshine.

Don't worry Stephen, the Nobel dinner is on December 10th every year, the anniversary of Nobel's death. We're down to about 6 hours of daylight by then!

However that means you will have to come in summer as well. There are certain natural sights that look waaaaaaay better in summer as I am sure you can imagine

PS And Buddha, you can cut out the jokes about spam and vi@gra right there!

So your saying you find JI and KR to be "way over the top audiophiles"? Because the way I read it this 10K greatest thing since sliced bread still needs at least a $1,000.00 or better external DAC to sound, ahem...High End!

I'm just gettin' started!

I got mine on the 19th just like Stephen said I would. I don't get why the digital subscription doesn't go out the same day as the print subscription and why digital subscribers have to wait until the official sale date. It would be nice to get the digital subscription as the first print copies are going out.
