Selling the Denon?

You can get the Playstation 2 DVD remote for like 10 bucks from eBay, and it works flawlessly as SCPH-1001's remote. Make sure to purchase one with the IR plug-in that goes into PS1's controller port.

Are you using the AV Multi output or the RCA outputs on the PS1? With a good after-market cord, the AV Multi out sounds way better than the RCA's!
Has anyone compared the PS1 with the previous budget king Sony WalkMan?

I tryed my ps1 in my system. This is not version with rca output, so I have to use the standard supplied cable. The sound was very dull. resolution was very bad. Bass where like mono, very dull. dynamics where good, and it where fast on transients. It also sounded clean in the midrange, and I could play very loud without getting tired (because of the cut off hights and low resolution), guitar strings sounded all the same.
I realy hope that the first version of ps1 with rca, sounded a hell of a lot better than mine.
I don't know so much about Denon 2910 but I have a Denon reciver. Connecting coax from DVD30 to that reciver (using internal dac's) sounded much better that ps1.
This is not a very expensive reciver, so I'm 100% that 2910 has better cd sound than that revicer.

My stereo settup are: Proac response D25, Primare DVD30, Primare I30, Harmonic tech and nordost cables.

Versions other than the SCPH-1001 (the RCA version) sound pretty terrible.

A 35 dollar Playstation One, if used with Nordost Valhalla 0.6 meter interconnects and a Nordost Valhalla 2 meter power cable, sounds as good as any 1500 dollar CD player out there.

The PS1 that I picked up for $20 sounds nowhere near like my Linn Genki in my home system, but using a decent AV cord (doesn't have RCA outs, stock cord sounds terrible), it sounds like "music" when played through a vintage NAD receiver and EPI bookshelf speakers in my office.

I'll go back to the local sally ann, and see if the brown shit encrusted 1001 model I saw yesterday, is still there.

And I will give my take on it's sound.

However, don't be surprised if I find a great flaw in the analysis on it's sonics. I'll only really know once I hear it. I might be surprised. I hope so,as then I can dig inside the unit and find out why. Which is more valuable than hearing the emperor's new clothes.

I have my expectations, and I hope to have them not get in my way. I'm wise enough and been through this often enough that I expect them to not get in my way. I get my advantage by seeing past such internal considerations. Therefore..I say I have my colored expectations..but it shouldn't be problem for me.

What I do expect, is to hear something like a class d amp, with regards to the perceived sonic clarity. And I gotta say, I've not heard a fundamentally good sounding class D amp yet-when you really get to the fundamentals of what they are doing.

The problem lies in how audiophiles listen-and what gear has been presented to them over the years, as being capable of describing 'fidelity'. Small wonder that folks get caught up in things like class d amps.

Perception, in audiophiles, for the most part-evolves.

Once you hear the flaw in something-the it is over, for that item. It has to go.

Jitter in digital is one that took some time.

Class D amps are another that will take some time. I heard their flaws in minutes, as this is what I do all the time, every day. I find the flaws in sonics presented by parts, components, gear, wire, etc. That's part of my job.

My experience is that Art is no dummy when it comes to this sort of thing..so I expect/hope to hear some vital component of the sonics that is correct.

There has been discussion on the possibilities of the origins of this 'fidelity' in the (specific!!!) sony unit, so we shall see..at least in the personal sense.

I'm glad you like the PS1, personally I'm a big fan of the Sega Dreamcast, perhaps SixMoons & Stereophile can review it next.

LOL. Dreamcast has nothing on Atari. You just have to squeeze in the cassettes into the cartridge slots.

Do you mean the Denon 3910? The 2910 sold in the US for $729, not $1500; the 3910, which had better audio components, sold for about $1500 new.

Seriously, I can't help but think that this whole PS1 thing is a practical joke gone berserk. I'm sure the PS1 sounds good, maybe even great, but I'd bet that if you plugged in various CD & DVD players, you'd find some gems, and that most of them sound pretty good. Give it a try, round up all the players you have hanging around (I know I have about a 1/2-dozen), and do a blind test, see if I'm nuts.

Audiophiles hate blind test, I'd hate them to if I just plunked down big $$$ for a fancy CD player only to have it bested by a discarded video game system, or my fancy amp bested by a $30 plastic "T-Amp"; having stated that, I still crave big nasty tube-amps w/blue meters, 25lb CD players, and speakers the size of a refrigerator.
