Hi Struts,

Thanks for the recommendation. I checked out the link to Enja web site and based on the personnel (Greg Cohen and Joey Baron are the long time rhythm section for John Zorn's Masada and Salvatore Bonafede is an excellent pinao player) I would expect this recording to be a "killer". Now my only problem will be trying to find a copy at a more reasonable price, 17.50 euro plus shipping (somewhere over $30) is just a little steep for a recording I haven't heard. Maybe once I return to the US

Jazzfan,

The playing is as you suspect first rate, as indeed are the sonics, so happily there nothing to obscure one's enjoyment of this fabulous music! And it's available through Amazon Marketplace for as little as $5.09 + shipping. Problem solved!

This album is really one of the best musical surprises I have had in years as it is not just a completely unfamiliar work but a completely unfamiliar (and genre-defying) musical style which, frankly, I would have had a hard time imagining I would really dig if I someone had tried to describe it to me before I heard it.

I first encoutered this record at my local equipment dealer who played one track in a sales demo; I bought the album on the strength of what I heard. However, on listening repeatedly to the complete album (the tracks are interrelated by common musical themes which I didn't realize when I just heard one track so it is one of those albums that richly rewards listening all the way through) I was completely blown away.

As I said, my recommendation is without reservation. If you don't like it you can safely ignore me and my recommendations for ever more!

Some generous samples HERE

Some more of the New Third Stream but hey, we're starved. Twenty years of schooling and all we get is a bunch of tinkering.

Thanks Struts. Unknown to me as well.

If you like "Where Is There," check out Norma Winstone's
new CD "Distances" on ECM.

Lord amighty that's some good stuff!

The samples don't begin to do justice to the whole.

Best of 08 so far!

Who says we need hi-res.

Thanks Struts
