There seem to be a lot of different Kimber kables in my range. Any specific recommendation there? 8TC, 4VS, 4PR, etc. Also do I get Bare-bare or "high performance"

Many questions...

Some people swear by Paul Speltz's Anti-Cables. I haven't auditioned them personally, but at $10/foot-pair, they're worth checking out. They're not only some of the most affordable cables around, but they've been praised extensively by both professional reviewers and average Joes.

Thanks. Seems like a pretty viable option for my set up. Do I get bananna plugs pre-installed on both ends or what?

I moved from the 8PR Kimbers to Analysis Plus Solo Crystal Oval and it was a huge step. In this price range there ARE differences, but it'd be hard to compare a bunch. (buying used off Audiogon is a good way to try, since they need a couple of hundred hours to break in).

BTW, I've got a 15 foot set of 8PR with about 800-hours on them for 100-bucks.

I've found Audioquest to be one of the most uncolored brands sonically speaking. I'm not familiar with their current line up. Contact a local dealer for assistance on that. If there is no local dealer try working with www.amusicaldirect.com

They come standard with spades on both ends, and bananas are $20/end. The termination you choose is a matter of personal preference, as well as the design of the binding posts on your amplifier and speakers. Your dealer may be able to tell you which termination works best with your equipment.

Note that you can also buy them unterminated (stripped back to bare wire) for the same cost as the spade version.

I'm in the middle of nowhere, so I don't really have much opportunity to try things out. Hence my selection of the Onkyo and Rega components...budget recommendations. So I'm gonna go with the forum consensus and buy untested.

I just looked at the specs for the PSB ALpha T1's and this is what they listed as "Features":
Dual, 5-Way Gold-plated Binding Posts
Aluminum Grille
Adjustable Spikes and Rubber Levelers

What is the difference btwn banana and the rest then?

In that case check out these guys http://www.thecableco.com/ they specialize in cables and accessories and even allow you to try them in your home.

In general spades provide the best contact, however if the back panel is close quarters they may not be the best choice. Many, but not all bananas can compress over time causing poor contact.

aaahhh...great site recommendation. So - not really an important question - if bananas are less desirable why are they more? Curious.

I personally think Kimber sounds too lean and would recommend Audioquest Type 4 from Audio Advisor, who terminates them for you and you save a lot of money compared to other dealers. IMO Audioquest has better balance and dynamics. Audioquest Type 4 Speaker Cable

Truth or beauty?

Kimber can sound lean in some systems. Audioquest type 4 is much more forgiving perhaps because in the few systems I

OK, so I pulled the trigger on the Anti-Cables. I'm running them slightly different lengths (14', 12'), which their website says should be no problem due to the low dielectric effect. I'll let you know how it turns out. At this point I'm just excited to get this thing up and running.

Thanks for the help,

Josh
