Woo-hoo! Congrats, Erik. I'm sure you feel a LOT better, bum ankles and all. My analog pursuit continues, though. Getting kind of tired by audiothink. I just bought a load of CDs today & will just listen to music for a while & not bother w/ equipment.
But enjoy your table & let us know how you like it. Are you going to use the wall shelf?
I'm going to fudge it for now shelf-wise, but might build one when the semester ends, or buy one of the Rega 3-point brackets when I have a job. I really want a Quadraspire shelf, but I figure it would be silly to buy a support that costs more than the table. Anyway, I'm not made of money.
I'm REALLY looking forward to becoming a vinyl bum. Digital for me is now an "only when necessary" proposition. Part of what drove my decision to pull the trigger is that my salesman recently returned from a trip to San Francisco, and I was super jealous of his hunting experience.
welcome to the LP club. sorry to hear about the bum ankle, you will need to set the table up near your listening seat to minimize the getting up and down. i am sorry if you think your spending is done. enjoy and study well.
Plus: A toast to Erik B and vinyl! I just popped open an imaginary bottle of champagne for you -- good stuff: Veuve Clicquot or High Life, or something.
My first high-end 'table was a Rega P2 and that thing was great! SO simple for setup and use- looks sweet, and is very reliable. You'll love it! Welcome to the world of analogue- it's a fun and exciting place to be.
Okay, Erik B, I blame you for this entirely, but I went down to Academy Records near Union Square in NYC & inadvertently purchased... 20 LPs. I went there to get some used CDs, but saw some killer deals. (Karajan/Schwartzkopf's Der Rosenkavalier by R. Strauss for $15?!? Yes, f*&^ing please.) Mind you I don't have the TT yet (although I have a pretty decent cartridge!) So I have these LPs that I can only touch, smell & admire at a distance. But I think I'm going to build up on my software so that I can plunge right into analog once I get my TT in a couple of months.

Well, to prolong your joy of delayed gratification: it's now time for you to spend for a record cleaning machine - so those beauties will be ready and willing to have their pristine grooves ridden when you do get a nice and sturdy analog front end!

Congrats Erik. It was good to see you in the store. Remember there are some upgrades you can do to the planar 3 over time. And by the time you get out of grad school and start making the big money.. you can get your LP12

Karajan has never been all that much of a favorite. Too bombastic. Otto has been my favorite with all those Philips recordings. Just the right pacing for me. But for Strauss? yes. Herbie von is nearly required.
Don't forget to be reading some Ayn Rand or Nietzsche when you're listening to Herbie Von. Be careful of your ass squeaking when you cross the room to flip the LP.
Too funny, KBK. Karajan would have THRIVED in our century. He was a PR machine. Not much of a Karajan fan either, but as you said, there are some unbeatable Strauss performances. Some of his Sibelius, too, and Mahler. I love Klemperer.
Erik B - what phono stage or pre-amp are you using?
Congratulations Erik! I remember when I got my first high end TT. It was a Rega Planar 2. Great table and the P-3 is even better!!! Have lots of fun with record shops and mods and tweaks!
Both You and Eric need to pick up an LP copy of Grace Jone's "NightClubbing"
That'll introduce you to Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare. Between them and Chris Blackwell...they MADE Island records. Sticky Thompson on the Drums as well. I'm not sure it gets much better than that. Well..there's lots more. But that's a goodie.
Grace is well..just Grace. To get a better perspective on her, Arnie complained during the filming of 'Conan The Destroyer', that Grace would not pull her shots properly, and was bruising him up. She loved hitting him --just a bit too much. She really got into the fighting and hurting bit. Just living up to her 6 foot Nubian background....

Total congratulations!
It has been very fun following your posts about your quest, and I'm happy you made such a great find!
Now the real trouble starts!
Thanks for the post.
+1 focusing on software for awhile

Cheers, indeed! Sam Adams is fine.

Welcome to my personal Hell.

You're specializing in something.. there has to be money there.. just don't ask Tom O. about this new plinthe on his LP12... I'll warn you now.

I'm using the phono stage in my Brio3, which is fantastic for a built-in. After all, it's a Rega.
I'm a Karajan fan myself, except for the whole, you know, Nazi thing. You can't touch his Beethoven, imo.
I thought you were talking about Furtwangler.
I brought my Planar 3 home today, with Sumiko Black Pearl mounted. I am listening to records. Lots. That is all.
Keep tweaking and massaging your music nipples, Eric. Good old analog fun. It never gets boring.

!!! That's probably the funniest thing I've ever read in the Forum. Thanks for sending me to bed with a huge grin on my face!

I love this sport!!!
enjoy. have fun with those nipples.
i miss mine as my listening room is under construction right now.
Now I will never be able to say "tweak" without disturbing my peace of mind! Thanks a lot, KBK!!!
