I love those Marantz integrateds, and use a PM7000 with a pair of Infinity Intermezzo 2.6's for my computer rig.
The PSB's are also a good match. I think you can't go wrong here.
You will have many years of enjoyment, and if you decide to in the future, the Alpha mates well with its subwoofer.
Cheers!
I would stretch the speaker budget ever so slightly to get the PSB B-25
speakers. You can find them for $350, new, unless you plan on using
an actual brick and mortar dealer for the purchase. Even then, I would
try to make a deal on dealer demos. You get a little more bass extension
that more fully covers most instruments. The B-25 recently fell off the
recommended components listing due to the "not auditioned in too long a
time" rule. It's still a fine speaker for the money.
I'm really picky about amps and trust Buddha's experience with the Marantz.
Just about everything mates well with the entry level PSB line of speakers.
As it should.
Thank you both for your replies- it's much appreciated. Monty, your post brings up a further question- what's the story with these online discount suppliers like Audiophile Liquidator (http://www.audiophileliquidator.net) & Best of Audio (https://bestofaudio.com)? Are these places legit or are they 'at your own risk' sorts of rebuilds and such? They both have the Marantz amp for about $460, which is pretty darn good.
And I've also read that the NAD 325 and/or 352 are comparable to the Marantz- thoughts or preferences?
Thanks! - E
I would second the PSB Image B25s and don't be afraid to buy them from the discounters ($350-$370). I would also look at the Cambridge Audio Azur 540A, NAD C325BEE and Music Hall A25.2 integrated amps.
