But who get's the CLEAR card, ain't that the next step up, in the Amex card game. Pretty soon you will have an entire deck of differetn colors with Amex. Green gold, Platinum,Plum, Clear, but if it's clear how do they print the account number and name on it, Braille?

If I am not mistaken Music direct owns Mobile Fidelity so they too are not just selling things but are contributing to the availability of better sounding software. Although MF isn't recording new music, like your example.

You're kidding. You?!

99% accept expensive cables? No way, nope. Not ones that understand basic electrical and electronics. Only those who read ads, and inane verbage from stores and mfgs.,...

And those that actually take the time to listen without a preconceived bias denying the possibility that cables can make a difference.

blah blah blah.

Well stated.

"Not ones that understand basic electrical and electronics."

That about says it, "basic" electronics.

As examples, have you ever learned about different types of solders and what there uses are from reading an electronics book?

Did your "basic" or "introductory" book teach at what frequency a wire transmits to an ajacent wire in a circuit, thus lowering channel separation in a stereo component? What frequency is that?

What about frequency dependent feedback from one stage to another through the power supply?

Did your book give any details about DA problems in capactiors?

You are right that most engineering books only give the "basics", "introduction", whether electrical, mechanical etc. That is why companies have a research programs. To continue learning.

Now that does not mean I subscribe to pet rocks or telephone calls to improve one's stereo. But neither do I believe in continuing to live with just "basic", "introductory" knowledge either.

I think we need to strive for a balance.

Cheers.

RoHs requires lead free solder now. think about all that good sounding solder that is piled in warehouses that are gonna be sold at audtion, and replaced with another great sounding solder.!!! I think the "sound of solder" is 10 steps up on the nonsense ladder above wires and terminal lugs with good sound. And those who can hear teh difference between lugs and termincals.....that goes straight to the top rung. A good shiney, wet solder flow and baby, the sound is there. I stick to the basics, cus' all that complex electromagnetic radiation formulas and stuff makes my head hurt. You'd be amazed what kinds of basic wires are used in stuff i work on, and they are up at a freq nobody sees, or feels until it's too late. they could never get away from marketing teh stuff with magic wires or fittings......since it ain't true.

I see you could not answer a single question because you do not know. The book/classes teach none of what I asked in my previous post.

Lead free solder has problems with growths. NASA already has at least one satellite that is defunk because of poor solder. That is what they get for listening to you Dup.

There are a few main points.

Point one is to demonstrate to the public that school/books are only introductory, basic, not comprehensive. To think that a book is the sum total of all knowledge is ludicrous.

Point two is that there are no short cuts to learning. Hard work and lots of testing, stringent listening tests are required.

There is no easy or fast way around those points. It does not take long to determine who has done their work and who has not.

Cheers.

I have read and seen the images of the "whiskers" formed on devices where lead was not in the solder. I do read and study things besides consumer level publications, my GED wasn't acquired through not reading, I did my Gazinttas, and sciphering, just like Jethro Bodine. Why do zealots then claim that all the answers are in THE BOOK...The Bible? Hmmmmmm? Did NASA have a failure due to the TYPE of solder or teh poor soldering done? you can use the finast most bestest, and if it's done poorly you have a porrly done with teh best solder job, and it still fails. Audio equipment is not used in the NASA enviorments....you are going down the path of things un related. Yeah NASA and military equipment uses solder, but I dare say some of their applications are beyond what your home or commerical amplifier, audio system is gonna be involved in. Mentioning NASA is like all the ads of magic parts in audio, they mention a subject, and try to make it fit into teh realm of audio. Like Skin effect, not at audio freqs. Like Hillary coming in under sniper fire, oooops, didn't happen. Just like all kinds of artifacts that happen in certain siuations, but not at teh audio level. The effects of wire insulations, not at audio levels, maybe hV certainly, corona and ozone effects, big issue, deal with it all teh time. RF, certainly wire shielding and insulations for outside U.V resistant, not in your home audio system, but scammers love to mention stuff, and tie it to audio. the uninformed buy into it, others QUESTION it? I was talking about the SOUND of solder, and how some people claim they hear the differences!!! Pretty soon solder will be like fruits and wine, solder from different countires has different sound....

The point is that text books do not possess all the knowledge in any one field. Alot of research is needed.

Just because one can read a book does not mean one has all knowledge. It only means one learns some basics, introductory knowledge necessary to continue on with one's personal education via more research in whatever field of endeavor one chooses. A degree is only a starting point.

Cheers.
