I had a similar noise problem when connecting balanced and unbalanced equipment. The 2 pieces of equipment were plugged into different electrical outlets and I suspected a grounding problem so I used a power strip and plugged both the pre-amp and power amp into the the same power source.
Problem solved.
I would venture a guess and say that when you turn off the Denon you are loosing ground. Good luck and keep us posted.

I understand what you're saying but it would be a bit difficult to connect the Denon and both the pre and power amp through a power strip.I have the pre connected on a Isotek substation but i will give it a try.Who knows !
Not sure what you mean by "high pitched noise". Do you mean a high frequency noise or a high level (loud) 60 cycle noise? What output connector on your HT system are you connecting to? Hopefully it's a preamp out and not a fixed line level output.
I really can't explain the type of noise.The only other instance i've heard such a noise is when you try connecting a source component to an amp without muting it but not that much loud.It's a "pre-amp" pot okay
