Would this work?

I would be more worried about the reflection points on the side walls than right behind the speakers. If you enjoy your ELS 3s at that position I would think the 12.2s would provide joy as well. You are essentially listening nearfield so I'd be concerned about reflections into the room. GIK 242s are good panels for that application.

Yes, it'll work. The position of the speakers will be slightly different, but not giantly so. Search for comments about the Sumiko Master Set which talks about placement. It looks like you might be pretty close to a great setup already (you obviously used your ears rather than a tape measure, as you should).

As jackfish said, if you need treatment it'll likely be on the fairly close side walls. Is that carpet on the floor? If not, then you might want to add a thick rug.

Thanks for the info. I can easily add some traps on the side instead of the back as they will be hard to see. The toe-in I currently have makes the ELS-3 completely disappear and puts the music right in front me as if I was at a live concert. Reason I am looking to upgrade to the M12.2 is because I want that extra detail in the midrange that the ELS-3 lack. I could easily hear it the other day when listening to my ABBA LPs. Plus the price I found the M12.2 for is too hard to pass up. So you don't recommend I put some panels behind the speakers at all? Would the panels on the side work if they are as high as the speaker?

You want to find the first reflection point and put a wide range absorption panel like a GIK 242 there. You would center the panel vertically to the center of your speaker's drivers. Only if you perceive ringing or reverberation from behind the speakers might you need panels there.

There is much information about room treatments here and other home theater websites.

Getting the mids right requires very precise speaker placement. A bass node that doesn't really jump out at you as such can be ruining the mids. The mids will sound congested, strained and loud when you turn up the volume. If they "open up" a bunch when you pull them way into the room, then there's an issue with a node. If you move them back to the wall and then move them out one at a time you'll hear nodes come and go. Some will be VERY boomy and some will just muddy things up. There's actually a very happy position where the bass is full, solid and deep without congesting the mids. It'll take a lot of time to find this without on-site help, but it's worth the effort.

Thanks for all the info guys and will be ordering some panels to tweak my room further. When I contacted the seller about the Epos M12.2 he had already sold them . But I guess it was meant to be since I just snagged a pair of Dali Ikon 2 cheaper than the Epos .
