There's no "correct choice" other than something that satisfies you and fits within your budget. That looks like a high potential system.

Enjoy,

Dave

As much as I like the Paradigm Studio 100s I think for jazz listening you should really consider the Vandersteen 2Ce Signature IIs for $2000/pair. I know I may sound like a broken record but the Vandersteens are that good. Especially if you enjoy the nuance that good jazz recordings reveal, the Vandersteens will blow away those Paradigms. But, you gotta listen and decide. You owe it to yourself to listen to the Vandersteens. If you already have and have looked elsewhere then I respect that your ears and brain are different than mine. Afterall, I do like the Paradigms, but like the Vandersteens better.

Jack,

Judging from the choice of listed equipment, it seems to me that kitjv likes his music on the brighter side of presentation. If I am correct in my assessment, then I don't think he would necessarily like the Vandersteens.

Just as I would not necessarily recommend a Rotel amp with Paradigms, because I think the Paridgms tend to b slightly on the bright side as is Rotel. However, since Kitjv finds this combination palpable, I think a recommendation of a brighter sounding speaker would be more to his liking.

It's all relative, as I wouldn't characterize Paradigm as bright at all.

I think Jack's thought process was that he likes Paradigm, but prefers Vandersteen. Therefore, that may hold true for others. Since I like Paradigm very much, I'm curious to audition Vandersteens now.

I would think that Rogue Audio Perseus would tame that Rotel down, hardly on the bright side. The best way I can put it is I think the Vandersteens articulate better than the Paradigms.

Erik, Audio Dimension in Royal Oak has Vandersteens.

Thanks! I'll have to keep that in mind for when I actually have the money for a new pair of speakers.

kit: sorry, there is no right choice or wrong. go with what you like, the only perifery issue i would look at would be reliability if it is possible to ascertain such. if you have a dealer who has been in business a while to back you up, you should have no worries. good luck and good listening.

Thanks, everyone! However, after a trip to my local dealer, I decided on a change in the system that I am contemplating. Instead of the Rotel RB-1080 power amp, I really liked the musicality of the Bryston 3B SST. Big jump in price, but a big difference in listening enjoyment. Anyone have experience with the Bryston?

Bryston amps are excellent, as is their customer service. They are highly respected by both audiophilia and mastering engineers. Clean, clear, detailed, accurate, musical

You just got bit by one of the best.

It's fun to see that you heard the difference and got excited by it.

If you can justify the price, I can't imagine that you will ever regret the purchase. Plus, they retain their value better than most - good if you later decide to move on.

A Rogue/Bryston combination was something I looked at, but decided against as the CDP I had choosen was designed to work best with balanced ICs. I recall reading somewhere that this also applies to the 840C so you may want to rethink either the Rogue or the 840C. Speakers are a personal choice so if you like them, you like them. Brystons are keepers.

I listened to Cambridge Audio 840C hooked up via unbalanced to some Plinius amps, and it sounded pretty fantastic. I've also heard that the low-end performance of the 840C improves via balanced, too, but if so, I can't imagine that it would be by a significant margin. At least not enough to keep away from 840C, especially as you'd have to spend significantly more on other players costing much more...
