Elk,
I am delighted you liked it and I agree with all your comments (except that I have to point out that it is 24/88.2, not 24/96). Anyway, pedantry aside in my mind this is a great example of all that is good about "authentic" baroque interpretation.
If anybody has any other recommendations in a similar vein I for one would be delighted to hear them. I can kick off by pointing to the superb Harmonia Mundi series of Handel's operas (Ren

A very nice seasonal gesture, but please BE WARNED, the 'Studio Master' downloads do sound very good indeed. Remember, the first syringe is always free...
Struts,
For a little fun, since you already own the Studio Master, perhaps you could try the 16/44 version of your favorite track and compare.
No, this is not an attempt to expose your cloth ears.

RG,
All music in my home (with the exception of that to my study headphone rig) is distributed by my Sonos system which as you know doesn't support Fs > 48 and only supports 44.1 natively*. In order to make sure I can listen to this great music all around the house I therefore routinely make 16/44.1 copies of all high resolution downloads in dbpoweramp.
I haven't yet systematically compared these with their high res originals through the Grace, although now that system is sorted I most certainly will. However what would be really interesting would be to compare one of my 16/44.1 conversions with a Linn 16/44.1 original (both numerically and subjectively) to see just how much distortion dbpoweramp is introducing in the conversion process.
So that's two more projects for my growing pile. What I would like for Christmas (if any of you were wondering) is three extra hours in every day!
* This, by the way, is the background to my interest in a TP (for the bigrig), however lack of native 88.2 support has thus far kept my finger hovering over the trigger.
Very cool!
Thanks!
It will be fun to compare the SACD to the 24/96.
Wow. It's sounds pretty darn good here at the office so I can't wait to get the DVD-A home. Thank goodness for the T1 line. I'm wishing for a T3 line now in the event these 2.5GB downloads become habitual. (The Trumpet Shall Sound was 151MB by itself). I bought the whole shebang and downloaded enough for a nice audition this weekend. I'll have to finish the download next week.
This is an excellent edition. I've charished my Hogwood/AAM vinyl for years (just listened again last weekend) but this looks like a really wonderful companion.
Thanks for the heads up.
Dave
Dave,
Fasten your lapstrap and be prepared to be blown away. I have just listened thru again this evening in the kitchen and can confidently declare this as my 'disc of the year'. It is truly mesmeric in every sense. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
Happy listening!
