I can't imagine that our tiny local woody is of any interest whatsoever to Mr. D. He is having too much fun to bother.

I still miss the bunnies.

hahaha, yupper, i noticed that too, i was gonna mention it, then forgot, hmmmmm, for them words to be used, it's FUNNY. And usually AD has some good points, sensible....but not this time about how mini amps can sound real etc. I'd like to know how some 10 watts of piddle power can reproduce the entire slam and impact, words he also eluded to, of a full orchestra...i don't care how efficient your speaker is, thre is nothing left to do it. And ain't there yet ANOTHER item just reviewed that again without JA truth in MEASUREMENTS, shows that the speaker don't meet advertised specs...but hey, only a few dB here or there, a few hundred watts here or there......realistic REPRODUCTION, it's just in teh PERCEPTION, of what one thinks sounds like the live event. single driver, clock radio amplifiers, high distortion of teh input signal, if it "sounds" like I like, it's REAL for me.....miswired, highly distorted, with no full body SLAM like live music gives, with the snap of snare drums, the chest shudder bass (not BOOM) while all the while the sparkling cymbals ride on top, then the blare of teh Gibson ....with all it's harmonic magesty. 10 watts, single driver, or mini woofers of 8 inces trying to move the air of a bass guitar and bass drum, ain't gonna do it....without SLAM, IMPACT, realsim is comprimised. Like lighting, w/sq ft matter, if you are to fill the area with LIVE music. How do you move the soul, if you can't move the air? Like lighting a highway with a flashlite, yeah, ya see a spec of light, but it's unuseable, and useless. WATTS, drivers, not $10,000 jokes, that have the power of a clock radio, oh, but it's magic ckts, we don't need no stinkin' watts.

You know, by far the most and probably the only realistic sounding speaker system that I have heard was the Avantgarde Trio. It sounded like the orchestra was right there, in front of me. It was unsettling because I heard the orchestra in front of me, but I only saw the speaker.

The Trios were driven by a Linn CD player (not DSD), and by Lamm 2.1 SET amps outputting 18 watts per channel. I've heard other systems driven by 1500 watts per channel amps and NOTHING ever sounded this big, this REAL and this good.

Granted, the Avantgardes' bass horns are powered by internal amplifiers, so the 18wpc only extended to the midbass, mid and tweeter horns. However, even though the bass horns are self powered, they're not powered by 1500 watt internal amps.

I recommend to see an Avantgarde dealer and ask them to demo the Trios. Your perceptions and conceptions may change.

Just smile, and keep saying, THEY know nothing. 15 Shindo watts, yupper, that'l move the soul, move the air. compressed dull lifelss playback, without teh SLAM, DYNAMICS, of the lower bass, pattern clearly, cleanly felt and heard, while the shimmering highs float on top of the WHACK of teh bass drum, sparkling tambourines, cymbals, floating in space, while the lead guitar wails with it's enormous harmonics, each one pristine clean easily heard, needs the drivers to do it, with teh watts to move and control them. With things like less than .01% distortion, super fast slew, so it responds. Not highly distorted 3% remixes, out of some Emerson Radio tube amp ckt and horribly clipped dynamics off an LP.... with it's stylus grinding down teh plastic grooves. How possibly can a limited dynamic range LP come anywhere near the incredible range of DSD/SACD, pristine highs, incredible dynamics. Right back at ya AD, I smile.......and all the rest.

Mono....let's go futher backwards. I'm sure it sounds lifelike, yeah, if you have no depth perception aurally, or maybe any sense of space has gone, maybe it's dysfunctional brain activity? We don't need no stinkin 2 channels, mono baby, on 15watts on one 4" full range speaker....now THATS what it's all about!!!! Just make sure ya spend a lotta money on stuff that is a glorified clock radio, and call it high end. tell me how do you squzze teh entire band into one mini driver, and expect it so sound like teh live event? Maybe my expectations are too high, but I'm getting closer and closer to teh original performance, lotsa other people with ears have listened, and noted some lifelike qualitys, but then we don't have the trained ears, like the qulaified experts that can get a lifelike sound out of 4" and 12 watts. It takes more like a crazy imagination, not trained ears. The companies that seem to think it takes drivers, and watts, must have it wrong, but then BLOSE says like AD and some others, do it with 4" and 3% distortion.
