I have only read the PR stuff. No one I know quite gets the purpose of this thing.
Seems counter to MF's normal approach..........Is that newt urine I smell?

I'm with you.

I saw the review that Colin mentions prior to making my initial post. Ken Kessler states that the sound of his Quad amp is retained, except for some hardening in the treble. This is better than I would have guessed.

If this amp can really do the job of straight wire with gain then we should all buy the 550kw that this critter is based on as we would get pure reproduction of our source through this amp. While a very nice amp, I didn't get the impression from anyone that the kw is quite this magical.

If Kessler says it's the real deal then I have to change my predisposition. The thing may be what it is claimed given the small changes that any cable will introduce.

I haven't read the piece yet, but I'll try to later this evening. Is this the "breakthrough" component that MF was supposed to be working on and that Stephen blogged about several months ago?

Agreed. If K.K. finds it this impressive I am intrigued. But I am still skeptical.

Maybe Stephen will tell us if this is the breakthrough . . .

Yep, it's the same component. I haven't heard it, but I figured it was worth mentioning on the blog, since several people seemed intrigued. I can't give anything away, but I hope that you'll find Mikey's review interesting, also.

This sounds familiar.

I seem to recall that back in the late 70's, Pioneer had a car unit that had a "turbo" button that would do the same thing.

It was like adding an "eleven" setting to your car system. When you really wanted to rock out...you know, take it to a level that REALLY rocked...you could hit the "turbo" button and it would kick your sound up that last notch. It was great for "Radar Love," "Smoke on the water," and "Rocky Mountain Way," as I recall.

I'll try to find pics. It was one of the models with the big round radio dial on the bottom left of the unit.

I wonder if Mu Fi has considered this for automotive use.

Maybe Mu Fi can bring back that seat shaker bass thing, too!

No big deal to drive a power amp with another power amp instead of driving it with a preamp.
Both methods have a constant voltage source interface.
A low source impedence driving a higher load impedence.
All that it requires is the correct gain design.
Is a major waste of the driving amplifiers power supply current.
Reminds me of the old CB linear amplifiers.
