Musician's Friend has a good return policy so you can try it out to see if you like it. Be certain you like the sound as sound reinforcement amps have a signature sound which is a result of designing the amp for reliable inexpensive power over everything else. This isn't bad if you like this, but many find it akin to sitting and listening to a jet engine - powerful but not musical.

DUP loves this sort of amp as his interest is recreating live amplified events, such as a rock concert. When at one of these events you are listening to sound reinforcement amps. Thus if makes sense to use this same type of amp to recapture this sound at home. However if you are seeking to recapture the sound of unamplified acoustic instruments many find PA amps seriously lacking.

Try one and see what you think. It would also be a good idea to try a good entry level high end amp - such as those made by NAD - to compare. Pick the one that sounds best to you in your system.

Not rock, but REAL Blues SRV, Hendrix,Matt Oree. I've heard lotsa BAD live Pa systems, it wasn't teh amps, it was teh guys with teh console controls pushing up extreme bass BOOM BOOM BOOM so everything is a blur. or extreme shrill highs I've also heard great live sound, all from the same amps....for some reason H.O.B sound guy uses JBL setups, those nasty PA based systems and Crown amps. Best live sound ever. Floor to cieling flying JBL's driven by Crown, 2 brands of non audiophile nonsese....it just works. Didn't see any magic wood blocks or anything along those lines, just solid electrical design, and acoustics done right, with speakers donw right. An amp with plenty of reserve WATTS makes it all come alive. A tiny audiophile useless magic $20,000 amplfier with about 12W of output is useless, if you want any kind of realistic reproduction. How lifelike is your clock radio? Same with undersized drivers trying to move air at realistic levels, a single drier ain't gonna do it. Try teh ART, you'll probably have a better system than many audio nut amplifeirs that have 1/2" front plates and "brand name" audiophlake capacitors and connectors.

As I said, DUP likes loud, amplified music. PA amps do this exceedingly well. If this is what you like, go for a PA amp.

Off topic, but good to recognize, is that the FOH engineer is indeed the most important factor as to whether a given amplified event sounds good or dreadful. This will matter when we start to hold live amplified rock concerts in our listening rooms.

High quality, high powered amps also do it well. Why is the perception that if an amp is used in a PA system, it lacks some audio myths? What if i took my amps and ran a PA system off them? They are very capable of running all day, full out. Can drive any load put to it, no audio high end nonsense about finicky loads etc. Well designed electronics works. What a concept. And dit doesn't have to cost some absurd price to do it well. Remeber the CHORD amp that was missing about 500W capacity from it's spces when actually used, and that thing cost a fortune, and it was audiophile, 500W is more than most audiophile even have in their systems. If an installer doing a pro installation gets products that don't meet specs, by this much of an error, the system is not what was contracted to be...but audio world of high end can accpet this incredibly bad design? Pro brands are usually a better deal, ya get what is spec'd.
