This is a question not a comment if that's OK? Look I have a Akia Reel to Reel Model No. 265D it has been a great machine. First used it for my personal use back in 1976, it's been my step-father's and no I have it along with another Akia that I have with this similar problem. These machines from Germany back in 1975.
OK now from what I found out by taking the back off and I also the front panel as well, the motor the runs the tape has stopped. It's been over a year sense it played and up to now I've trying to act like an technician without testing equipment and I hate to through it out because I guess the repairs are going to cost for a use one so I be buying someone else problems then I write back in the driver's seat sort-of-speak. So my question to you is,....your's opinion. I do Have another question: If it's just the motor then go for it. Question #3. Can you give me of anywhere I can go that can repair and service these types of machines in California? Thanks.

I assume you mean Akai, which was a very popular Japanese tape deck in the 1970s. I used to have one. They were also sold as "Roberts" in the U.S.

Lots of luck finding any parts, other than rubber belts (which may be what you need). The rubber parts in these things will mostly have rotted after all this time.

The best bet might be to find a smilar machine on Ebay to cannbalize for parts.

www.manual-buddy.com seems to have a manual.

I suggest that you contact Sweetwater.com for info on possible repair or parts.
