For my first leap into audiophile equipment the Arcam Solo and Paradigm 100 speakers make a great simple system.

Indeed! My first leap into hi-fi involved the Arcam Solo, too. A great place to start (or even to finish, actually).

You're a very clever fellow. As Stephen put it you've found a really fine place to start and not at all a bad place to finish. Hooray for you!

Happy Listening,

I have nothing but good things to say about Paradigm and the Solo is a very impressive piece. It sounds like you've made yourself an excellent system for not a lot of money. I wish you many years of enjoyment!

Wow thanks for the warm welcome and the kudos. I now go to my audio room and listen to hi-fi every night for a couple of hours (usually some Coltrane, Sonny Stitt or RVG recordings).

I was wondering...I have a subwoofer and was thinking of hooking it up with my Paradigm speakers. I have to say though that the speakers sound great as is and I am not sure the sub will add a lot. What does everyone on the board think?

Ah, to tweak or not to tweak!

I haven't listened to a subwoofer yet, either, but I have one on the way. I've been very impressed with a $279 pair of PSB Alpha B1s. I could live happily with them for quite some time, but how would I know if I'm missing out on something, if I didn't try adding the sub?

You'll never know, unless you try. Right? If the sub doesn't add some level of listening pleasure, you can take it out. Even if it makes things sound worse, simply hearing a difference might be somehow informative and fun.

"Boy this really makes my music sound good. Wonder if it could get even better?" That's how it started for all of us. Welcome aboard, its great fun, but take care. Remember never to invest more in gear than in the music you play on it, and be aware that the secret of this hobby is knowing when to quit.
