B&W 602s2 sounding a little harsh ?

I would suggest an audition of a better amp. My experience has been that Sony amps are harsh to my ears. Just for grins, I would try a small tube amp for sound quality and a to get an idea of how much power you need for your speakers. Sometimes a better speaker brings out the weakness's of the electronics.
I believe it to be your combination. I feel that the B&W speakers sound a bit forward regardless of amplification. And I agree with the above poster, that the Sony amps are bright (in my opinion, so are the Dennon amps). I would suggest trying a different AV-amp if it is within your budget, because I would hate to hear someone getting rid of B&W speakers for a Sony amp.

Regarding the AV-amps, I would look into Marantz, Arcam, Harman/Kardon and Sunfire for a warm, smooth sounding amp. However, I missed the second part of your question.
The Monitor Audio RS6, from how you describe the B&W's, would be a better speaker for you. The RS6's are not as harsh, bright, or foward like the B&W's. Trust me, you can always sell the B&W's as they have a very loyal following. I suggest that you audition the RS6's, if you like the sound, buy them.
If you have no problems or issues with your Sony av-amp, I would look at speakers, especially, since you like the sound with your previous speakers.
Your ears need to be happy, not ours or your friends.

right, after much research I don't think the RS6's will do either, I've had a listen and I do prefer them than the 602's but there still not hitting the sweet spot, I'm after a smooth chocolate pudding sounding speaker
, I think the problem is my older speakers had a silk dome tweeker and sounded very smooth and much more forgiving, I think I'm going to steer away from speakers with metal/aliminium dome tweeters tbh I just don't think there my cup of tea, I've been up nearly all night trawling through different forums and I think the speakers I need are either the Quad 21L or Quad 22L depending on bass, I'm gonna try and get an audition but I really have a good feeling about these speakers,
anyone have any thoughts on these speakers, I've already brought a new amp, I got an Onkyo TX-SR674E in the end.
My local dealer sales them, they are beautiful speakers and very well made, but I have never heard them.
I have, however, heard the Quad ESL-2905 electrostatic speakers. No words can describe the incredible sound and life-like detail that comes from these speakers. These are my future upgrade speakers, when I get the room for a dedicated two channel setup.
