Could you make a "field coil" phono cartdridge?

Buddha,i am bot so much of a technical person but isn't that new cartridge "strain" or something supposed to be working the way you describe?

Hi, Yiangos!

The strain gauge is different in that is uses changes in conductivity when the stylus assembly changes the pressure on a nonmagnetic beam. (Beam as in solid object, not like a laser beam.)

At least, that's my understanding of it.

A field coil would still rely on changing a magnetic field to generate current.

Sorry Buddha but I didn't see this post until recently.

A field coil in concept will work. What I would question is whether a sufficient magnetic field is generated by the field coil when compared with a small permanent magnet. If so, how much current is needed in a very thin wire to achieve it (have not calculated)? It might be too much heat for a small coil. More wire leads out of the tonearm would mean more mechanical resistance to motion, unless you use some other non-mechanical signal transduction.

Hi, WTL!

I actually found one...

Audio Note Io

I wanted to invent one, so I was slightly bummed to find one already existed.

I'll just have to move on to my next "get rich never" scheme!

OOOPS...at last...I found you ages ago when browsing without joining...and wondered what what had happened to you...(no need for reply!)...so what do you think of these Audio Note folks then...???

I am completely new here and have been warbling dozens of words about mainly the legalities (in any country) of changing formats from old (or new) vinyl into digital stuff and might get banned soon for being pedantic...but in the meantime...

I live maybe thirty minutes from Audo Note HQ and have been in discussions with the MD / Owner regarding things which he obviously sees as being in total control about and I reckoned I might have helped him with...is that new deck with the three motors way beyond anything in this world or what???

Buddna...you might not have missed your chance just yet...how do these guys market in USA and any opinions please?
