I have restored a couple of these
- get the ball bearing out of the spindle - so for a day or so in WD-40 if ncessary
-relube with 90w synthetic (from auto parts store)
- remove the bottom forever
- take the suspension apart and clean the rubber grommets used for the srings. Remove the foam in the springs (it gets hard and worthless over time), When you put it back together put powder on the grommets.
- Put Dynamat Extreme (thin vibration absorbtion mats found at car stereo stores) on the underside of the plinth and some strips on the suspension (not to much and even across the mechanism-you don't want to make it too heavy or out of balance). Put some strips on the motor and under the armboard too. Iv'e used a stethscope to check this - it kills motor noise across the table
- watch out when leveling the table. Glass paltters on the unit can be a bit convex. Put a flat record on and use it to level.
- here is a link for a very easy to use protractor - there is an Adobe link near the middle

Thanks so much for the info -- this is exactly what I needed to know. I have never personally done any work on this table since I purchased it other than changing cartridges. If you don't mind, I'd like to ask another question: what is the best way to get the bearing out of the sleeve, and how should I get the old oil out? How much new oil should I put in?

Mark

One more...

Will I damage the suspension if the table is not right side up while working on it? If so, what's the best plan of attack?

WD-40 for a day or so - then just tap it on something. The bearing sould come out. (You may have to tap hard)

On the suspension question. As long as the sub and main platter are off do as you wish. Upside down is no issue
