Hi, just last week this question came up at another site.

JA said that J. Gordon was retired in Boulder, Colorado.

Corey seems to be a shaving cream and brush reviewer now, and has a shaving site.

Not sure if he does anything Hi-Fi. He'd been doing media updates for TV talking about what's new in the world of Hi-Fi, but I don't know if he still does that.

The last thing I read about Corey painted a rather negative slant on his objectivity:

I've always enjoyed CGs stuff. He writes with a relaxed and entertaining style. If he actually did disclose his conficts of interest with NBC and they chose not to disclose this during his commentary then this reflects bad on NBC (like the major media outlets have any credibility in the first place?).

Stuff like this doesn't bother me when there is full disclosure. It's when conflicts are concealed that credibility is shot all to Hell.

If you spend any time watching or listening to the Wall Street shows you will notice a healthy dose of disclosure during their discussions. In the stock market world, this is compelled by stiff penalties for failing to disclose conflicts of interest.

There is hardly any excuse for Corey not insisting on disclosing his relationships even if NBC wasn't keen on the idea. Having been banished to reviewing shaving devices is a fitting punishment.

The trick is to keep your hobby so separate from your profession that no one can find a conflict, like it's OK to work for the State Department and review stereo equipment on the side, like someone we know...lol.

BTW, that's the case for the majority of Stereophile's reviewing staff.

I remember being 21 years old and buying Stereophile for the first time. Boy was I disappointed. It seemed like a bunch of old fogeys with a ton of money waxing philosophic about things I could never afford. Then I read a review by Corey. It was so down to earth and funny it renewed my faith in the magazine. I miss him.

Yes, he did - track 14, "Eden," on our Test CD 2, which we've just re-pressed, and is available for purchase here. Corey also contributed some very entertaining liner notes.

Yeah, and in that short cut he came closer to nailing the Hendrix gestalt than SRV ever managed.

Yup, Corey's been stripped of his audiophile membership.

They teared off his audiophile grade epaulettes, broke his tonearm wand in half, and snipped the buttons off his golden mean jacket.

Then a fife and snare drum played as he marched out of audiophile land in disgrace.

Now, he's been banned from owning any gear that appears in the pages of the major Hi Fi magazines and can only own LP's that weigh 179 grams or less.

I think he's not allowed to listen to uncompressed digital, either.

It's so bad, that if you try to imagine what his life is like now, you have to do it in frequency limited mono audio and black and white visual images.

Outside of this thread, he can only be referred to as "he whose name shall not be spoken."

Let this be a lesson to you all.
