I'm in favour of it. At the art forum I own, registration is required to access the full features of the site. People can still surf without doing so, but, posting requires registration. This cuts down on a lot of spam and nonsense, and because members are able to choose user names, anonymnity (if desired) is preserved. It's nice to have some attribution to a comment, even if it's a handle (are my CB roots from the 70s showing?), just to facilitate clear communication between parties. As long as e-mail address harvesting or privacy isn't an issue, signing up to post shouldn't be a big deal.

I can't see any downside to requiring registration to post. Perhaps some of the annonymous users could chime in on why you shouldn't.

Please make registration mandatory. I resisted registration on another forum for over a year due to my innate dislike for membership in any group that wants me as a member. My name was well known on the forum and one day someone stole my unregistered identity and began posting under my name. Since they were posting insults to other members under my identity, it became somewhat embarrassing and difficult to get things straightened out. Registration won't eliminate the goofballs that want to cause trouble, but it slows them down and diverts their attention to someone else's yard. Sort of like putting out bait for fire ants.

You know Stephen,after giving it a better thought i decided to write an additional post regarding the matter.Not only registration should be mandatory but you should find a way to make them include their e-mail adress and then YOU should send them the password that will enable them to log-in.You allready know my English is not very good but i trust you understand what i am trying to say. This way,at least,they will know they are "visiblr" to you,the moderator

Required registration makes perfect sense to me, and I'm not the one who has to waste his time culling out the nutcase posts. Go with it.

Along with registering, I think a hearing test should be mandatory. Your ear response should be posted along side the registrants online I.D. this way whenever they make absurd coments about hearing a piece of wire, wall outlet, or a frozen, thawed reheated piece of wire we can look up the hearing curve and know they do not have the abilty to hear what they claim.
