I haven't bought any blank cassettes recently. I bought a carton of TDK-MA's several years ago so I don't know what current pricing is. Nak's always were the best cassette decks available. I am certain either of my Nak's (ZX-7, LX-5) sound better than any MP3 player. I don't have a bulk eraser. I always erased a tape first before re-recording on it. I haven't been playing cassettes much lately. I do have a collection (300 or so) of tapes I recorded. Maybe I'll play some of them today. Thanks for prompting my memory.

I used to own a Pro Walkman. My Naks walked all over it. Naks seem to have a different eq so their tapes don't sound right on other machines and vice versa.

My rig is composed of a lot of "classic" gear. I even have a Teac 3340 RtoR. I leave it out just for show. Yes, it does work.

I own a vintage Nakamichi 480 that I purchased new in 1980. Nakamichis do have a unique sound that I always loved. If you're not aware of it, TDK was the manufacturer of Nakamichi branded cassette tape, which the machines are calibrated for (bias and EQ). The only other tape that sounded reasonably close, in my opinion, was Denon. Grab the TDK metals if you can find them.

I've got two Naks a ZX-7 and LX-3. I've been sitting on a case of TDK MA. Although cassettes see little use here I keep the tape and the machines ready.
