Is it illegal to post a name and address that is already in the public domain? In other words, if I can look it up in the phone book and I post it without any malice, would this be illegal? Or, if I post it in a manner that is for information purposes so as to avoid potential fraud, would this be illegal.

Hey, what about if I post the name and addresses of known/convicted child predators living in my city, would that be illegal?

Please, do elaborate on the law.

As this person is also breaking the law, ie, falsely representing himself as being the review editor from the non-existent Australian office of Stereophile, I would have thought it a wash. We need to warn others not to send review samples to this person. Hard to do so without using his personal information, I would have thought.

I certainly don't think you'll need one, but given the political climate in the state of New York one never knows. Should you need a legal defense fund over this issue, let those of us here know. I'm not that much of a Cheapskate and I'm sure others here aren't either.

it's NOT illegal to post someone's name on the internet; and no one posted his actual address anyway. In any case the only thing that would be illegal is if you posted the name of an actual person and stated something negative about them that wasn't true and it hurt them in some way (either emotionally, physically or corporately)....then that's illegal because it can then be construed as slander, and each state has different laws about this. Just posting the miscellaneous name of a 'more than likely' fictitious person in a public forum is NOT illegal. I'm in the entertainment business myself and I have no idea what that guy from Wardner Bros. pictures was talking about. Just an FYI.
