One thing we could do is to direct Mr Hellman over to that other forum, particularly the "critics" section for a more definitive definition of "GRUMPY". I visit there about once a month just to make sure the same posters are still hashing and rehashing the same old dead horse topics.

That letter bothered me as well. For the most part, I feel like we're fairly helpful people here, who also know how to laugh.
I think we should keep this new item tabled until we clear up the issue of Stephen's "disgusting" blog entries.
One battle at time, folks, one battle at a time.

Are we really grumpy?
Well, besides JA?
Maybe we should have a two drink minimum before logging on.
Hi fi talk does seem to lend itself to iconoclasm, and the internet makes for a more recalcitrant form of inconoclasm, but I agree, we are general affable and interested in helping.
(Edited to spell "blog" correctly.)
No. But in the early days of the forums, which is what I assumed Mr. Hellman was referring to -- remember that I was working on the March issue's "Letters" column last December -- there was quite a bit of the arrogant strutting that plagues other Web forums.

When he reads your post on this topic, I'll bet Bhudda will think twice before again implying that you might sometimes be grumpy. You get my nomination for the Alan Alda Sensitivity Award. I have a question though. Since it seems OK to make a sweeping judgment and take action on a small sample of data, why do you bother collecting all that data for your equipment evaluations?
You bring up another interesting internet hi fi point - lotsa guys want to have the "alpha" ears and will abide no dissent.
Alpha ears? I'd have thought being able to boast having the biggest rig would suffice.
It keeps me from hangin out in audiophile bars on the wrong side of the tracks until the small hours.
