Always a sad day when we lose an artist who has touched our soul. Jim, I sampled some of his work and it's easy to see how he may have touched yours. Hopefully you can find some comfort in knowing he's now with a higher power.

For those of you not familiar with Anthony Berger, the above link is most interesing, including the fact that this year he was names Steinway Artist of the Year. It is a startling reminder to make as many friends in life as you can, realize how fleeting our time is here, and that there are no gurarantees. I will miss his playing terribly. My wife's favorite song is: "I've Just Seen Jesus". To see him play it on the DVD of Israel Homcoming is astounding.

We saw him last year in Birmingham, AL and our close friends, Al And Dee Marks just saw him 2 weeks ago. Al spoke to him before that concert and was in awe of what a gentleman he was to even take the time. Anthony joked that the DVD was $30, but said the signature was $100 as he was signing it, but Anthony said Al could owe it to him. Funny.

They had not heard until I sent them the email. They were as sad as we. When an artist touches you like this you now know what music can mean to the soul. It is why we want to hear more, as sometimes there is no more to hear. RIP.

Jim,

While the music Anthony Burger played may not be everyone's cup of tea, I can more than sense that his loss comes as a terrible blow to those who do enjoy his music. And futhermore, I can also tell that his musical abilities transcended those silly labels we all too often place upon such artists. I suggest you play plenty of his music in his memory and be thankful for the recording that he as left us.

Once again the lack of a decent sub-catagory (Gospel) within the Stereophile music forum section left you with no place to discuss this fine artist's work.

Tell me Mr. Sysop, are we getting through to you yet?

I feel as if I've lost a close friend tonight. With surgery yesterday, I didn't hear the news of Anthony Burger's death. Surely heaven is filled with wonderful music today. My favorite song he plays is 'I've Just Seen Jesus' off the Gaither's Israel Homecoming DVD. You've never cried til you've cried tears of faith.

Anthony slumped over while playing this song....

We Shall Behold HIM

The sky shall unfold, preparing His entrance;

The stars shall applaud Him with thunders of praise.

The sweet light in His eyes shall enhance those a waiting,

And we shall behold Him then face to face.

Chorus

And we shall behold Him, we shall behold Him

Face to face in all of His glory;

And we shall behold Him, Yes, we shall behold Him

Face to face, our Saviour and Lord.

The angels shall sound the shout of His coming,

The sleeping shall rise from their slumbering place.

And those who remain shall be changed in a moment,

And we shall behold Him then face to face.

Chorus

And we shall behold Him, we shall behold Him

Face to face in all of His glory;

And we shall behold Him, Yes, we shall behold Him

Face to face, our Saviour and Lord.

We shall behold Him, our Saviour and Lord.

Anthony and his God given talent shall be missed........

1 Peter 1:18 For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom He paid was not mere gold or silver. 19 He paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. 20 God chose Him for this purpose long before the world began, but now in these final days, He was sent to the earth for all to see. And He did this for you.

Well, I wish it were under happier circumstances, but pleased to meet you, Diane.

It's amazing how and artist can get under our skin and we establish an emotional bond (I mean that in the psychologically healthy way) to them, even though they are essentially strangers. I guess maybe I get the feeling I know a litle about what someone is about via their expressions of talent and creativity.

Dang, 44 is too young. I hope he was fiscally successful so his family doesn't suffer in that regard in addition to everything else they must be going through.

Hey Buddha,

I made a list of some of the more worthwhile groups available on archive.org and I'm going to post it over on the Music Section of the forum under the Rock subcatagory. I wanted to give you a heads up so you didn't have to waste any time searching through all those subcatagories to find it

Thanks for the fabulous post Re: archive.org over in the "ROCK" music category.

Let me take this opportunity to eat my words from a previous post wherin I stated I was not familiar with ANY of the bands over at the site you reference. It's obvious from your post there are offerings from MANY popular rock bands which, admittedly I have not HEARD.

Re-examining your prompting, I now see this as a way to Free and Legally broaden at least my familiarity with what is currently going on in this genre, which again admittedly I am way behind the times.

Also, as regular readers of this forum may recall I pointed out the enormous file sizes of the downloads along with the enormous file size of the decompressed files. A quick calculation would indicate that if one were to sample just one song from each of Jazzfans' list, approx. 15-20 Gigs of space would be needed. Assuming fairly recent computer technology I would say most of us have such idle capacity sitting on our existing drives. Obviously if you go nuts you may need to add one of those ridiculously cheap 250 gig models Buddha pointed out.

So, at your relentless prompting Mr. Jazzfan, I'm going to head back over to Archive.org and broaden my knowledge of the current state of "Rock". It would seem a win/win for me.

RG,

I don't know how this happened but somehow it's you apologizing to me.

Seriously though, there are plenty of options on archived.org which do not require tons of hard drive space. One can stream just about any of the shows instead of downloading them if all one wants to do is listen to the group or show before committing to the download.

As John Atkinson has already said "This site is awesome!"

Hi, Jazzfan!

I went and looked and will try it out.

I may need some hand holding. I bought an external hard drive and would want to download to that....

I'll keep ya posted!
