Sorry!
In addition to the usual suspects, I'm also a Flora Purim fan.
Same with Milton Nascimento and trying to find Samba de breque or Samba reggae artists like Olodum.
I guess when I saw your topic, I felt overwhelmed. There's so much Brazilian music that it's almost like asking how people feel about "American Music!"
Just so long as people go one level deeper than "Rhythm of the Saints," I'm happy.
Have heard "Esquina de SP" with Wilma de Oliveira? It's a live club recording (in japan!!) on Saidera SACD (CSDA 1027 SA).

Ooh!
Maybe I should start thinking about getting one of those new fangled SACD thingamajiggers.
How long until it would be defunct?
I'm still pissed about my Elcassette, digital tape recorder, mini-disc, and Betamax Hi Fi experiences.
Did Sony spearhead SACD?
If it did, I fear for its short term future.
Well, Sony's pretty much bailed on SACD but this disc is a hybrid and playable on regular CD players. Other labels are more stalwart in their support of the format.
OTOH, I will be keeping an SACD player for the foreseeable future as I already have more than 1000 SACDs in the collection.

Buddha,
I was with you all the way until you got me with the Betamax deck. The Elcassette...what else starts with an E...Oh Ya, Edsel. I also had a swell three head 2 speed Bic Cassette deck.
If you like Brazilian rhythms and music. You might want to check out this CD. Brazilified Quango QMG-5003. It's a collection of Brazilian dance and club music. Some of the tunes would make Grant leave his tomb and head for the nearest club.
How about Elaine Elias...she can really play and is "so easy" on the eyes. Her recordings sound very good as well.
Question for Unregistered from Brazil.
Yo Yo Ma released a CD some time ago entitled Obrigado Brazil. He played with Cyro Baptista, Oscar Castro-neves, Jorge Calandrelli, Rosa Passos, Paulo Braga, Helio Alves, Sergio and Odair Assad, Paquito D'Alvera, Cesar Camargo, Romero Lubambo, Egberto Gismonti and Nelson Matta. Perhaps you've heard this charming recording. Prior to this, the only Brazilian musicians I recognized were Bonfa, Jobim, and Gilberto. Are the musicians who played with Yo Yo popular in Brazil?
